Welvista’s Medication Assistance Program is driven by a leadership team who believe all South Carolinians deserve access to affordable medications. Our approach to leadership is a belief in community service, teamwork, and collaboration.

Juanita Wright served on the board of directors for 19 years before transitioning to chief executive officer. Under her leadership, Welvista has grown into a thriving nonprofit organization with two vital programs: MAP, a charitable pharmacy providing free prescriptions to low-income, uninsured South Carolinians, and Smiles for a Lifetime, which provides free dental care to students in five of South Carolina’s most rural counties. In collaboration with the board of directors, Juanita is leading an aggressive strategy to grow Welvista, “South Carolina’s best kept secret,” through community engagement in 2024.

Debbie Kinder joined the Welvista team as director of pharmacy before becoming chief operating officer for MAP. During her tenure, MAP experienced record growth in both patients served and prescriptions filled. She is spearheading Welvista’s largest pharmacy expansion since the COVID pandemic with goals of both increasing the number of patients served and expanding infrastructure to accommodate our increased growth.

Kahlia Aposhian, director of patient services, joined Welvista in late 2023 with the determination and enthusiasm to reinvigorate the organization’s patient outreach efforts. In 2024, Kahlia will double Welvista’s number of community outreach advocates working across South Carolina as a strategy for building relationships with schools, churches, and other nonprofit organizations that can refer patients to MAP.

Together with our dedicated staff, we hope to ensure that no South Carolinian must make the impossible choice of putting food on the table or buying their lifesaving medication. As leaders, we believe that our staff is as responsible for our growth as leadership and our most important role is to ensure they have the resources necessary to fulfill our mission.
