Spectacular styling and dramatic transitions capture Columbia Metropolitan’s 2018 Designer Home. Nine spaces were staged by talented Columbia designers at 1618 Graeme Drive, a custom designed home built by the Wilson Company. The company, started by Evan Wilson in 2008, targets Columbia buyers in established neighborhoods who see the value of a seamless design/build approach. A Clemson University graduate in urban design and planning, Evan shares that his interest in building began while he was enrolled at Clemson and had an opportunity to study in Genova, Italy.
The five-bedroom, four and a half bath, 3,700-square-foot Lowcountry style home features spacious custom bathrooms, hardwood floors, a modern kitchen with white Carrara countertops and wide, welcoming porches. The open floor plan with 10-foot ceilings downstairs and 9-foot upstairs gives each space a naturally lit, gracious ambience. The designers could not have asked for a better backdrop!
Upon entering the home from the wide porch with pale blue Southern-inspired ceiling, Mandy Summers-Smith’s dining room is a highlight with shades of aqua featured through custom local art and table settings. The rear of the home is a spacious living area combined with the kitchen. Amanda McNabb and Amelia Bradley from Strobler Home Furnishings create sitting room glamour through airy artwork and neutral tones in a setting with classic furniture selections.
Jeffers McGill appliances are built-in with top-of-the-line brands. The focal point is the wonderful six-burner gas cooktop. The den area, designed by Linda Burnside, is spectacular with dramatic details, a balanced seating arrangement, and an inviting combination of hues, including green, black, brown, gray, and white.
Terry Shepherd with Southeastern Salvage always has a surprise in store. The plethora of furniture, accessories, plants, rugs, mirrors, art, and dinnerware is fun and colorful, creating a lively array on the back veranda. The master bedroom, which is on the ground floor, is a focus on elegance. Black, gold, and white find balance in a gorgeous French accent chair, double chest in black, textured pillows, and complementing linens adorning a white bed frame. Terri Veitinger of Ethan Allen fashions an inviting space; pay attention to the beautiful reflection cast in the mirror.
Christy Davis’ love of blue and white, handed down from her grandmother, produces an unforgettable combination, including an antique rug, special porcelain pieces, and distinct artwork. New upholstered pieces add to the blue and white theme for the sitting room upstairs.
Veronica Russell gives the twin bedroom a novel twist with black artful bed hangings banded in white and attached to the ceiling by decorative rods. The Westend team takes playfulness in design to a new level. The juxtaposition of color and detail through the window shades, art, bed frame, and chandelier is masterful.
In reflecting on the finished product of this beautiful home, Evan Wilson credits his excellent team of five as the ones who bring the many projects to fruition. “We are a design company that builds homes,” Evan says. “It is the implementation of thoughtful design that truly impacts a place.”

Living Room
Creating an ambiance of clean, yet inviting sophistication, Amelia Bradley and Amanda McNabb of Strobler Home Furnishings designed a living room meant for entertaining in style. An artful blend of textures and colors produce an eye-catching palette built off a collaboration of neutrals. The Revere Pewter walls, classic sofa, and cream lamps provide a solid foundation, allowing personality to shine through the use of statement accents layered throughout. To maintain a timeless look, Amelia and Amanda incorporated textures through the use of pieces like the grass cloth wrapped sideboard and burl wood side tables, which could provide functional versatility in a variety of spaces in the home.

Master Bedroom
With just the right balance of modern and classic, this master bedroom clearly demonstrates the ambiance and character of a true owners’ suite. With its clean architectural lines and slim tuxedo wings, the Colten Bed, dressed in the neutral combination of soft white, gray, black, and taupe, makes the impressive classic statement homeowners appreciate. The Ethan Allen team selected hand-applied champagne detailing to emphasize the lines of the mahogany Powell dresser and mirror. Incorporating the scrolled arms and carved rosettes of the Giselle chair adds an interesting neoclassic contrast that spotlights a clean modern appeal. Energy efficient cellular roller shades complete the look by providing an economical window dressing with a modern twist. The innovative curved shape of these Hunter Douglas shades gently diffuse light while offering the enhancement of a room darkening feature. Creating any master bedroom retreat begins with a focus on practical, functional luxury. Selecting lasting quality furnishings will bring this dream to life.

Den
Inspired by all things organic, designers Linda Burnside and Erin Rasmussen of LGB Interiors have created a bold yet calming space. By combining black and white elements with layers of tribal influences, this room comes to life. The free-flowing wood coffee table and shell drum shade lighting, both by Made Goods, add the organic elements that soften the space. A leather-wrapped tray, which rests on stainless legs and serves as an end table, is the perfect complement. Anchoring the space is an oversized black and white photograph. Custom window treatments in a bold graphic twig fabric from Kravet Inc. are the perfect contrast to the Farrow and Ball black accent wall.

Dining Room
M. Gallery owner and interior designer Mandy Summers-Smith was honored to create this nature-inspired dining room, flowing with soft aquas, deep greens, pale grays, and hints of orange. The fabulous textured tryptic by award-winning artist Melony Stuckey, entitled Fading Away, provided the perfect backdrop for the main dining area. The brilliant progression of colors in Melony’s series is repeated in the china, table linens, and accessories. Award-winning artist Suzanne Wilkins’ beautiful palette in “Tradewinds” complements the dining area and sets the tone for the bar. Mandy says, “Finding the right inspiration and attention to every detail are the hallmarks of great design!”

Guest Bedroom
Veronica Russell designed a guest bedroom with the goal for anyone of any age to enjoy. She wanted to incorporate a classic but also current look with fun and unique elements. By creating the wall runners, she added drama and utilized the angles in the ceiling to accent the twin beds. The color palette, consisting of whites, dark grays, pops of sage, and mint greens as well as the wood tones, is a calming, timeless one with multiple patterns and textures to add interest. The mixture of old and new pieces lends a collected feel and brings a nice balance to the space while the addition of fresh greenery and florals welcomes guests.

Children’s Bedroom
Westend Interiors designed an upstairs room adjacent to the Jack and Jill bath. They were initially inspired by a colorful set of abstract artwork with pink and blue tones and a unique chartreuse papier-mache chandelier. That combo quickly directed the space towards a child’s bedroom. When searching for fabric with blue, pink, and chartreuse tones, they fell for a playful series from Scion. It was there that they found the main fabric, which is featured as the bedroom window treatments. They finished the linens with vibrant trimmings, color block solids, and a soft pom-pom quilt. The color story had fallen into place, but they still needed a bed. Westend selected a Vanguard custom upholstered headboard, which is great for any age. The lively space is balanced with a pair of neutral, funky nightstands, a calm wall color, and a pair of gourd lamps.
