The year 2021 has been full of challenges and changes. David Coker, owner of Comfort Keepers, a nonmedical in-home care company, knows this better than anyone. Coker owns the Columbia, Sumter, Florence, Mt. Pleasant, and Summerville offices, with his first opening in 2006. With the pandemic, in-home care services have never been more needed and more beneficial.
Our caregivers can keep someone safe in their own home while providing one-on-one care, keeping that person from having to go into a nursing home or assisted living where they are at a much greater risk. Our clients can get everything they need in the comfort of their own homes safely, but also, more importantly, quality care.
“Caregivers have always been the backbone of Comfort Keepers, and we pride ourselves on hiring those with a passion for what they do,” Coker explains. “Our caregivers take their job very seriously and want to provide the best for our clients, and companionship and social interaction play a huge role in our clients’ lives keeping them active and engaged. Comfort Keepers offers all levels of nonmedical in-home care, including Alzheimer’s and dementia. Our caregivers are able to help a client with bathing, dressing, transferring, meal preparation, and errand running, to name a few. Our plan of care is tailored to meet our individual client needs and can be updated as needed throughout their time with Comfort Keepers. For more information on how Comfort Keepers can assist you, please give us a call today!”

Why use a local agent when looking at Medicare options?
Making decisions about Medicare requires much thought, planning, and research. It’s important to work with someone familiar with the options available in your county and state. At Lourie Life & Health, we will do the research to make sure your prescription drugs are covered and your doctors and healthcare facilities are in network with the plan you’re considering.
It’s tempting to pick up the phone and work with a call center. During this pandemic, a telephone consultation may be safer than an in-person meeting. Local agents can do both. Also consider who will be there to answer a question when you have an unexpected medical bill or claim denial. Your local agent is more than an order taker; they are your advocate and regular resource for all your questions.
At Lourie Life & Health, you’ll work with a local professional experienced in helping find the health plan that meets your specific needs and budget.

Faith-Based Nonprofit Senior Solutions
“Believing in the presence of God, the value of human life, and the dignity of the individual, the mission of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, Inc., as a ministry of the church, is to promote the well-being of older adults by providing residential, health care, and hospice services.”
Founded in faith, Lutheran Homes is South Carolina’s largest nonprofit provider dedicated to senior care. Renowned for innovative programs and compassionate care, our mission spans over a century in the service to people of all faiths.
We believe that all people should have plenty of opportunities to flourish and enjoy life. We strive to provide a lifestyle that encourages vitality and happiness in the moments. Our calendar of life enrichment activities and events, along with one-on-one interactions, encourage six dimensions of wellness: physical, intellectual, emotional, social, spiritual, and occupational. Together, the dimensions make up our BeWell Wellness program to support the well-being of more than 1,200 older adults that we serve daily.
Daily, each of our 1,000 plus TeamMates has a unique opportunity to make a difference. Through our Five to Thrive program, we encourage staff members to put our Priorities – our name for those in our care — first. Whether it’s remembering an anniversary, lending a listening ear, or delivering person-centered care, we believe that it is the attention to each of these interactions that makes our organization one-of-a-kind in Southern hospitality and Christian care.
Across the state, our comprehensive ministry offers programs supporting independence and wellness:
• BeWell@Home: a statewide program offering a unique blend of traditional retirement community services and benefits of long-term care while living at home;
• BeWell Home Services: nonmedical, personal support at home;
• Franke at Seaside, Mount Pleasant: independent and assisted living, memory support, long-term care, Medicare certified skilled nursing and rehabilitation;
• The Heritage at Lowman, Chapin: independent and assisted living, memory support, long-term care, Medicare and Medicaid certified skilled nursing and rehabilitation;

If you drive onto the Still Hopes campus, you will see huge banners that read “Still Hopes Strong.” There are few times in life where words ring quite so true. Like many of you, Still Hopes has endured a lot over the past 18 months; however, through the hardships, there has been great strength to be found. That strength is found in our residents who trust us to keep them safe, even when they have grown weary of all the “rules.” That strength is found in our amazing staff who just keep showing up day after day to do the good work that must be done. We are so proud of our community. We are not just surviving, but continuing to thrive and look ahead to an assuredly bright future.
Our HopeWell building is complete, and residents began moving into HopeWell in February of this year. We have only two of the 80 apartments available in HopeWell, and seeing it come to life has been invigorating. We are also about to embark on the demolition of our Bistro dining venue, and residents are excited for the future of that space, which will include a dining area and pub. We have also had some exciting staffing additions as our community continues to grow, including the hiring of David Smart, who is now our vice president of operations. We also welcomed Reverend Douglas Gray as our new chaplain and Derek Graham as our director of hospitality and culinary.
Still Hopes’ mission is to provide a faith-based community where life will be as rich and full as God intends it to be, holding to our values, serving one another with dedication, and promoting health and wellness for all. As always, we pledge to honor this mission through our good work at Still Hopes.
