Mungo Homes: the Builder of Choice
In a time when the media can’t resist reporting bad news – especially concerning the housing industry – there’s one company not only surviving, but thriving. Started in 1954, family-owned Mungo Homes is having a banner year garnering national attention while setting internal sales records and outpacing the local competition.
Mungo was named America’s Best Builder for 2012 by the industry’s leading national trade publication, Builder magazine. The award honors the best new home builder in the country, based on overall achievement in housing and excellence in finance/operations, design/construction, customer service/quality, community/industry service and marketing. There are four winners, based on number of closings, and Mungo has been selected America’s Best Builder in the category with the highest number of closings.
Introduced last year, Mungo’s innovative hauSmart program – which has changed the way new homes are built based on a unique combination of features that make each Mungo home healthier for the residents and the environment, more affordable to operate because of energy efficient features and construction techniques, and comfort features such as a music port and stash center that come standard in each home – helped achieve the best builder recognition.
The exclusive hauSmart program then earned Mungo the National Green Advocate of the Year Award by the National Association of Home Builders.
New home buyers have taken notice of Mungo as well and, year to date, sales reflect their preference for Mungo’s innovation and stability. Through July, Mungo has outpaced the next largest builder by 37 percent; internal sales goals have been exceeded each month, with year-to-date sales about 30 percent ahead of projections.
CEO Steven Mungo praises his staff, saying, “Stewart (Mungo) and I are really proud of our team and appreciate what they do to make us such a great company. These past few years have not been easy on our industry, but this somehow makes the journey and our awards even more gratifying. We will forge ahead with the same spirit and determination that got us here and continue to put our buyers first.”
Mungo Homes and Sovereign Homes, Mungo’s upper end construction entity, currently build in approximately 40 neighborhoods across the Greater Columbia area and has just started a Build on Your Land program. Mungo also builds in Sumter, Greenville/Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach and Charleston, SC, Savannah, Ga. and Raleigh, NC.
