Now is the time for wellness. Through her two businesses, Expecting Well and Expect Wellness, Dr. Rachel E. Hall is helping Columbians achieve health and wellness.
Expecting Well, a maternity spa and wellness center, provides pregnancy-safe spa services, prenatal yoga and other educational offerings that promote pregnancy wellness. The prenatal yoga classes are taught by Dr. Hall, who has delivered more than 300 babies. All products used in the spa are carefully chosen by Dr. Hall, since many cosmetics, personal care and spa products are full of toxins. One of the most toxic cosmetics is nail polish, which contains things like formaldehyde, toluene, dibutyl phthalate and camphor. Expecting Well uses a nail line that is free of these toxins and is practically fume-free.
“We all need to start paying attention to the onslaught of toxins in our daily lives, and this is the spa for the exposure conscious. We welcome any client, pregnant or not, wanting to reduce their toxin exposure,” Dr. Hall says.
Her newest business, Expect Wellness, offers integrative/holistic consultations. Whereas conventional medicine commonly approaches symptoms, integrative medicine seeks the cause of the symptom and focuses treatment at the root of the problem. An integrative physician considers the entirety of the patient – body, mind and spirit – as a treatment plan is derived. Evaluations include exploration of the health of the body, mind, emotions, environment, social structure and spiritual path, looking to achieve balance in all areas. Lifestyle changes as well as evidence-based natural and complimentary/alternative medicine therapies are initially recommended, only reaching for pharmaceuticals or surgery when all other treatments have been exhausted or those treatments are clearly indicated.
“Nutrition, exercise, stress reduction, sleep, toxin avoidance, attitude, spirit building, supplements and complimentary medicine are insuring your health,” says Dr. Hall. “The insurance product you pay for each month is insuring how you will pay when you get sick or injured.”
As a family physician, Dr. Hall can provide consults for anyone – male, female, newborns to geriatrics. She has worked with clients ranging from 16 to 89 years old, with problems as diverse as hair loss, high cholesterol, ulcerative colitis, arthritis, diabetes, prostate cancer, migraines, fibromyalgia, anxiety and depression.
