Claflin University’s growing reputation as a leading 21st century institution of higher education reached a historic milestone when the university launched its Registered Nurse (RN) to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program during the 2016 fall semester. The program represents the dynamic progression of Claflin’s increasing emphasis in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and online programs, while maintaining its distinction as a top-tier liberal arts university.
Claflin’s RN to BSN program is open only to registered nurses who have earned an associate degree in nursing from an accredited institution. Nursing graduates and professionals can earn a bachelor’s degree in 12 months.
The RN to BSN program is consistent with Claflin’s selection as the lead institution for the Carolina Cluster Pathway Program (C2P2), a $6 million grant under the UNCF® Career Pathways Initiative funded by Lilly Endowment Inc., designed to help the institutions improve employment outcomes for graduates. The program also connects with The Claflin University Strategic Plan: Claflin LEADS, which is an acronym for Leadership Development, Experiential Learning, Academic Excellence, Diversity and Inclusion and Student Success. All courses are taught online which aligns with Claflin’s focus in re-engineering teaching and learning through the integration of state-of-the art technology.

LRU’s Center for Graduate Studies of Columbia, South Carolina opened its doors to students and faculty in fall 2014. The Center’s opening brought LRU’s Clinical Mental Health Counseling program to a third campus location and added an additional online Human Services program to the list of graduate degree options. In 2016, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy was also added. All programs are service-oriented and consistent with the university’s mission of providing a Christ-centered, caring community. Coursework is designed with the working professional in mind, with online, evening, hybrid and weekend classes available. The center shares a campus with the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary of LRU and is located in the garden level of Beam Hall.
Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (OT)
The Master of Science in OT program is an expansion of the program currently offered on the Hickory campus. The 27-month program combines comprehensive classroom instruction with extensive laboratory experience. A new OT building is currently under construction at the center. The 24,000-square foot building will include a state-of-the-art laboratory, classrooms and student workspace, as well as faculty and administrative offices. It is expected to open in summer 2017.
Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling
The Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling is designed to prepare individuals for licensure as professional counselors. The program primarily focuses on the development of strong clinical skills and applications.
Master of Arts in Human Services
The Master of Arts in Human Services program is designed for individuals who are passionate about helping people and making the world a better place. This advanced degree prepares graduates to work with and make a difference in the lives of the world’s most vulnerable populations — and to be a change agent in areas such as poverty, healthcare access, child and youth services, addiction or career placement. The program is online, allowing students to enroll from anywhere in the world, and begin any semester (summer, fall or spring term).

Justin Bethel missed tryouts for middle school band, so he tried out for football instead. That wasn’t the end of his interest in music, but it was the beginning of a journey that would take him to the NFL. And his first stop? Presbyterian College.
With his eye on the NFL, Justin sought out a school that would provide him a well-rounded education as well as an opportunity to play football. Music, too, was important to Justin, and he knew he wanted to keep it in his life in some way while at school. Many consider his array of interests somewhat unconventional. Some might even encourage him to embrace only one of his passions. Well, not everyone, not every college.
At Presbyterian College, we recognize that students are multifaceted. We make the unconventional conventional by allowing students to pursue their many passions through the liberal arts. Such freedom provides students with an opportunity to customize their education, enabling them to get the most out of their time as an undergraduate.
This is why Justin Bethel chose to attend Presbyterian College. At PC, Justin’s multiple passions flourished via his liberal arts education. He was a Blue Hose on the football field, a performer in the jazz and pep bands, and a student pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
Unconventional? Not at PC.
