Consultants in Gastroenterology would like to welcome Scott Bills, MD, to their staff of physicians caring for the health care needs of the Columbia community.
Originally from Salt Rock, West Virginia, just outside of Huntington, Dr. Bills went to Marshall University for undergraduate studies, where he obtained a B.S. in biology. He then remained at Marshall to attend medical school. While pursuing his medical degree, he met his future wife, Kiersten. She has a master’s degree in education and currently works remotely part time for the University of Louisville while simultaneously raising their two small children.
“My internal medicine residency was at the University of Louisville. I stayed for an additional year as chief resident. I then went to UKY for gastroenterology, where I was introduced to advanced endoscopy,” Dr. Bills says. Currently, Dr. Bills is completing a one-year advanced endoscopy fellowship learning ERCP/EUS and other techniques from a tertiary referral center perspective. His patients are referred to him from community hospitals because of their complexity. He says, “I hope to bring my training to South Carolina so that patients can get as much care as possible locally rather than having to travel to other centers.” Dr. Bills will be performing general gastroenterology and ERCP/EUS services that are already provided at Consultants in Gastroenterology, allowing them to see more patients and resulting in shorter wait times. “My good friend, Nelson Seabrook, encouraged me to interview at Consultants in Gastroenterology. I was impressed by their commitment to physician-led community health care and decided to join,” says Dr. Bills.
Dr. Bills and Kiersten have two children, Lydia, 4, and Anderson, 2. They also have a standard poodle named Remy. “I spend the majority of my free time with them. My kids love the outdoors and learning. My wife has already made friends in the area and is excited to settle down in South Carolina. My in-laws live two hours east of Columbia, and we are excited to be closer to them,” Dr. Bills says.
