How did your business begin?
In 1947, two World War II veterans, Jack Roof and Bill Sandifer, opened Blossom Shop. Jack worked for Shandon Greenhouses, and Bill was a distribution manager for The State newspaper. Jack had the talent, Bill had $3,000 — and Blossom Shop began!
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
Blossom Shop offers Columbia the largest selection of fresh-cut flowers in a myriad of colors, along with a vast array of blooming and exotic plants such as orchids and bromeliads for your home or office. We also carry distinctive home accessory items and a great selection of cachepots and other containers for your plants.
How did you get involved with the business?
Roger started as a floral deliveryman, and Corky’s mother owned a flower shop.
What do you like best about your line of work?
The people. We are a very personal business. Over the years, we’ve delivered many arrangements for new babies who are now parents sending arrangements to their children having babies! We love these close relationships. Also, working with fresh flowers is a lot of fun. Holidays, such as Mother’s Day and Valentine’s, can be stressful, but also very rewarding.
