A Grand Exit

Columbia grooms get away in style

By Muffie Vardell Wells

Caroline and Bret Mealing were married at the beach at Debordieu Golf Club. Exiting the elegant Georgian style clubhouse reception, the bride and groom ran down the stairs amid friends waving streamers and jumped into Caroline’s brand new 4Runner. They spent the night in Georgetown at 620 Prince, a local bed and breakfast, and honeymooned a few months later in Italy. Photography by Paula Player Photography, Myrtle Beach.

Planning the wedding getaway strategy is often a spotlight of originality for couples. Columbia grooms took the stage recently, exiting in a number of stylish memorable snapshots, including processing through sparklers and streamers and departing the wedding scene in antique cars, flatbed trucks, and most surprisingly, accelerating into the night in a true replica of the Batmobile! Columbia grooms take a bow for creativity, ingenuity, and flair as they whisked their brides away to their new lives.

Ella and Richard McCain were married at First Presbyterian Church. Following a reception at 1208 Washington St., the couple was last seen headed for Disney! Liz Roberts Photography.

Ali and Taylor Brown were married at Mountain Top Golf and Lake Club in Cashiers, North Carolina. The bride chose to leave in her gorgeous wedding gown with a white fur cape surrounded by family and friends waving sparklers. They made their way for a night at The Old Edwards Inn before leaving for a two-week honeymoon in Lake Como and Tuscany. Photography by Kickstand Studio.

Alex and Walker Sojourner were married in Columbia at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral with a reception following at Forest Lake Club. The dashing couple left the club in style, speeding away in a replica of the Batmobile made by the bride’s father (for details about the car, see Et Cetera on page 128). After a wonderful wedding trip to Antigua, the couple settled in Columbia. Sarah Pascutti Photography.
