The Vista, Columbia’s premier art neighborhood, has been a force in keeping the Midlands’ art scene thriving during the past three decades. The modern Vista has its roots in the 1980s, when artists began to move their studios to the area’s affordable warehouse spaces, and the district’s restaurants, shopping and nightlife are still driven by the area’s art-filled history today. Artista Vista, Columbia’s annual gallery crawl, encourages continued public support for the arts by showcasing the amazing art that can be found right here in Columbia.
Artista Vista features art by artists from the Midlands, as well as regionally and nationally recognized talent. Artists and gallery owners will be on-hand to chat with visitors, giving attendees insight into their work.
Clark Ellefson, head of the Vista Gallery Group and owner of Lewis + Clark Studio, says, “Artista Vista is entirely run by the galleries, as it has been since the event began over two decades ago. Artista Vista is always a great time to highlight the galleries that give the Vista the energy it’s known for.”
The crawl will be held Thursday, April 26 through Saturday, April 28. Galleries will host visitors for free and offer complimentary beverages and hors d’oeuvres. Attendees will also enjoy pop-up installation art, music and other live entertainment throughout the Vista, including a Trustus Theatre Black Box show.
