In 2022, The Cooperative Ministry celebrates 40 years of serving the people of the Midlands with short-term crisis assistance and long-term sustainability services. Started by five downtown Columbia churches, The Cooperative Ministry today has 53 church partners, corporate sponsors, and thousands of individual friends who financially support the mission and provide much-needed volunteerism.
Short-term services include financial assistance for rent and utilities, free clothing and furniture, food assistance, and budget counseling. Long-term sustainability services include free tax preparation assistance, help with obtaining a GED or job-related certification, partnerships with financial coaches toward financial empowerment, and assistance with insurance enrollment. The Cooperative Ministry serves more than 13,000 individuals each year and is a debt-free organization with 89 percent of expenses supporting direct program services.
Here’s how you can get involved: Donate your used car to The Cooperative Ministry’s Car Program. One donation can help as many as five families. Towing is free within 50 miles of Columbia. Through December 2021, Jim Hudson Automotive Group will match up to 20 car donations. Please call Scott at 803.799.2428 or visit CoopMin.org/Donate-Your-Car.
Become a Friend through a recurring, monthly gift. Over 12 months, a $25 monthly gift becomes $300, a $50 monthly gift becomes $600, and a $100 monthly gift becomes $1,200. Schedule your recurring gift at CoopMin.org.
Visit and Volunteer. The Cooperative Ministry loves volunteer groups, and service can easily include a building tour. Groups can help in the clothing bank and provide light seasonal landscaping assistance. Individuals can volunteer in front-end reception and serve as volunteer income tax preparers. Please visit CoopMin.org/volunteer or call Rhemie at 803.799.0932.
