As the first group in the area to offer orthopaedic and neurosurgical services within one private practice setting, Midlands Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, PA, is proud to count seven of its own physicians among this year’s Top Doctors. Doctors Holbrook, Lozanne, Rambo, Ugino, Green, Piehl, and Gross have each spent decades treating patients in the Columbia area. All of them have been honored to care for multiple generations of many Midlands families; these physicians have cultivated meaningful relationships with patients that enhance the treatment process.
Doctors Holbrook, Lozanne, and Rambo are neurosurgeons who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions involving the brain, spine, and nerves. Doctors Ugino and Green are orthopaedic surgeons with specialized training in the upper extremity, which includes hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder. Doctor Piehl is an orthopaedic surgeon with specialized training in pediatrics. Although well-trained to treat all pediatric musculoskeletal conditions, he has a particular expertise in pediatric spinal deformities. Dr. Gross is an orthopaedic surgeon specializing in total joint replacement who is internationally known as an expert in hip resurfacing.
While these seasoned physicians believe in comprehensive non-surgical treatment whenever possible, they are well-equipped to provide surgical intervention as necessary. Tremendous advances in surgical treatment options have evolved over the course of their careers. Perhaps the most dramatic improvements have related to surgical instrumentation that allows a minimally invasive technique. By utilizing smaller incisions, this technique reduces tissue injury, thereby also reducing pain, infection risk, scarring, and blood loss. Additionally, the advent of computer-assisted navigation in the operating room has dramatically increased the precision of brain and spine surgeries.
Coupled with advances in pain management and anesthesia, these improved surgical techniques have shifted the majority of orthopaedic surgeries and an increasing number of spine surgeries to outpatient settings, replacing once lengthy hospital stays with same-day alternatives that yield high quality outcomes at a much lower cost.
All of the physicians at Midlands Orthopaedics & Neurosurgery, PA are committed to staying abreast of the latest advances and leveraging new technologies to enhance clinical outcomes and the patient experience. They are also passionate about providing these services within the context of a private practice setting that promotes patient choice in the selection of health care providers while providing some of the most cost-effective treatment options in the Midlands.
