Joel Johnson, DMD, says he feels so blessed to have such great support in his life from his church, as well as family, colleagues, dental staff, patients, and friends.
“I have been fortunate to have been voted by my dental peers to receive this award for the third straight year. I am so honored that my colleagues feel me worthy of this award once, much less three times!” he says.
Dr. Johnson is a Christian, attends Spring Valley Baptist Church, was a deacon, and has taught high school Sunday school. He has also been on the Youth Council and has played drums in the church’s praise band for many years. He and Pam, his wife, have two boys — Joe, Jr. and Jeffrey.
Joe works for WPUB/WCAM, KOOL 102.7 radio in Camden. Dr. Johnson shares that Joe has been involved in sales and play by play for various sports. WPUB/WCAM is a small market radio station where Joe has numerous responsibilities. KOOL 102.7 is primarily an oldies and sports format radio station. Joe plans to marry in December.
Jeffrey is a senior dental student at MUSC’s College of Dental Medicine in Charleston. And, while he has not made a final decision as to what area of dentistry he would like to pursue, his father assures his son will be “awesome” no matter what the choice.
Dr. Johnson has been practicing dentistry in Northeast Columbia for the past 34 years. He says, “I believe I have the best team in South Carolina!” The practice has been awarded the City Beat News Spectrum Award for Excellence in customer service for the past four years. “These awards plus our 222 plus, 5-Star Google reviews say multitudes about how much we love and care for our patients,” he says. “Quality dentistry and customer satisfaction are two of our highest priorities. Along with being chosen by our peers as a Top Dentist, we have also been awarded by the National Consumer Advisory Board as one of America’s Best Dentists for the third consecutive year. This award is based on evidence of superior training, experience, continuing education, and a commitment to excellence.”
He shares that his team is proud and humbled by these many honors. They are thrilled to be able to offer patients this level of quality dentistry and service. His team includes, at the front desk, Mandy Lynn, Janet Boykin, and Jamie Leigh. The hygiene team consists of Melissa Deibel and Amanda Byrd, while the assisting team involves Jennifer Walker, Megan Good, and Savannah Ramey.
Says Dr. Johnson, “I am so thankful for the dedication and all the hard work our team brings to our patients every day! What a blessing this team is to me and all of our patients!”
Dr. Johnson would like to say a heartfelt “thank you” to patients and friends, most of whom are one in the same. Over the past 34 years, they have become a close family. He explains that he has watched patients’ children grow to become adults and have children of their own.
“I love and care for you and your children as I know you do me and my family,” Dr. Johnson says. “It has been my pleasure and honor to treat and serve you and your families for these 34 years. Thank you so much for choosing me to provide your dental care; it is very humbling!”
Dr. Johnson says he has no plans for retirement. His goal is to practice as long as he can and as long as “the Lord keeps me healthy and gives me steady hands and good eyesight.”
He believes he could not have chosen anything more rewarding than a profession that allows him to be a friend and a dentist. He looks forward to many more years together.
“May God bless each of you!” he says.
