Jan Jernigan is a Financial Advisor, First Vice President, with Morgan Stanley in Columbia. Jan values the access she has to information and knowledge from Morgan Stanley, a leading global wealth management firm. With all of the resources and products available through Morgan Stanley, she has wide-ranging techniques to help stay on top of investments.
She considers it important to have a financial advisor to help sort through all of the complex data available. Jan has established a dedicated client base and has been practicing for more than 30 years. She enjoys working with each and every one of her clients. Communication and trust are crucial components to the investment advisor/client relationship. She believes that one of the keys to successful investing is to set realistic expectations. She sees her job as defining goals and risk tolerance, then creating a strategy for each investor to help achieve those goals.
Jan was recently honored by the Midlands Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, where she was named “Woman of the Year” for her fundraising efforts to help find a cure for blood cancer. Jan is involved with many other charities including the American Heart Association, Welvista and Sistercare. She is President of the University of South Carolina School of Dance board. In her role as President, she helps to chair an annual gala performance to raise money for dance scholarships to USC. Jan loves sailing and serves as Immediate Past Commodore of the Columbia Sailing Club. She is active with Capital City/Lake Murray Country, a nonprofit organization promoting tourism in South Carolina.
Jan serves on the Morgan Stanley National Diversity & Inclusion Council. This group meets in New York twice a year and works year-round to encourage all employees to use their backgrounds, talents, cultural identities and experiences in the workplace. Morgan Stanley is actively attracting and promoting women as well.
She is passionate about saving animals and supports Pawmetto Lifeline and other animal rescue organizations. She lives at Lake Murray and has a hound-dog rescue named “Maddie.” Jan has a daughter, Polly; son-in-law, Cliffton; and two grandchildren, Gabrielle (3) and Isabelle (1).
