Jan Jernigan is a Financial Advisor and First Vice President with Morgan Stanley, a leading global wealth management firm in Columbia, SC. She has established a dedicated client base and has been practicing financial planning for more than 35 years.
Jan considers it more important than ever to have a financial advisor to help during these volatile markets. Her experienced team includes Tyler Priester, Financial Advisor, Associate Vice President, and Senior Portfolio Manager; and Shari Hordern, Senior Registered Associate. They see their jobs as defining goals and risk tolerance, setting realistic expectations, then creating a strategy for each investor to help achieve those goals. The team believes customer service is a top priority.
Jan also believes that giving back to the community is a priority. She recently served as the American Heart Association’s chair of the “2022 Go Red for Women Event” and as “Open Your Heart Chair” for the 2020 Midlands Heart Ball. Knowing that heart disease is the No. 1 killer of women, she is proud to serve on the AHA Board of Directors. She was named the 2019 “Woman of the Year” by the Midlands Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. She is currently president of the University of South Carolina School of Dance board. She was given the “Key to the City of Columbia” because of her devotion to the Midlands.
Jan loves sailing and served as the 2018 Commodore of the Columbia Sailing Club. She is active with Capital City/Lake Murray Country, a nonprofit organization promoting tourism in South Carolina.
Jan was honored to serve on the Morgan Stanley National Diversity & Inclusion Alumni Council for three years. This group works year-round to encourage all employees to use their backgrounds, talents, and cultural identities in the workplace.
She lives at Lake Murray with Sammy, the puppy she rescued from Pawmetto Lifeline in 2020. Jan has a daughter, Polly; son-in-law, Cliffton; and three grandchildren, Gabrielle (6), Isabelle (4), and Thomas Carter (1).
