Sharon Bryant

Sharon Bryant has made her mark in the financial services industry and is a legacy in the making for bankers in South Carolina and beyond. Bryant joined First Citizens Bank in 1999, after leadership roles at both First National Bank and First Union. For the past 12 years, she has served as the company’s regional executive vice president for its South Region — which encompasses all of South Carolina and select Georgia markets. Her responsibilities have increased over the years as the bank has grown and become a Top 20 U.S. bank, with more than $200 billion in assets.

To many who work with Bryant, she is known as an influencer who leads by example and has a track record of producing tangible business results. “I’m a firm believer that leaders do not motivate people,” Bryant says. “Instead, leaders create an environment where ordinary people can do extraordinary things.”

Her contributions to the state’s banking industry have not gone unnoticed by members of the state’s business community. In 2006, she was selected as chairman of S.C. Student Loan Corporation, becoming the first woman to assume that role with the organization. What really inspires Bryant on a daily basis is the opportunity to help others. At the young age of 5, Bryant was taught the importance of serving her community. Since then, she has volunteered countless hours on behalf of deserving nonprofits throughout the Midlands. She truly “walks the walk” when it comes to giving back to her community.

Whether it is supporting the professional development of a colleague, helping a client reach an important business milestone, or volunteering with a local nonprofit, Bryant epitomizes the philosophy of servant leadership. Her decision to maintain a positive attitude, relentless pursuit of excellence, and passion for the industry are infectious traits to those around her. She continues to serve as a role model for women in an extremely competitive industry, thanks to her ability to lead, inspire and influence others.
