Capers Lee, DMD, is a 1982 graduate of the University of South Carolina and attended dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He graduated in 1986 and recently completed his 38th year practicing dentistry.
When Dr. Lee met a fellow dentist on a dove shoot in September 2003, little did he know that his life was about to radically change. Dr. Danny Gardner, a dentist in Charleston and an avid supporter of foreign and domestic mission work, mentioned taking a trip to Venezuela in the spring, and the rest is history.
Dr. Lee contacted Dr. Bill Sasser of Charleston, a veteran servant with the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and away they went. For the past 20 years or so, Dr. Lee has been able to tap into Dr. Sasser’s trip abroad with the CMDA about two or three times a year, serving in Peru, Venezuela, Trinidad, Ecuador, and, his favorite, Honduras.
“I really think that God is leading me to do this a lot more often, and I am waiting to see how He would work that out,” Dr. Lee says. “I could never have even dreamed of the blessings He has showered on our family since we started serving the world’s poor so intentionally.”
He is in his 38th year of marriage to his sweet wife, Tilly. They have three married sons, Hunter (Anna) who is now a dentist and part of the Dental Team, Banks (Molly) a dentist now in specialty school to become an endodontist, and Myles (Bailey) an insurance agent in Sumter. They have seven grandchildren and another on the way.
“I can’t wait to see what God will do next … I’m really looking forward to continuing to serve Him in the rest of my days on earth,” says Dr. Lee.
