Capers Lee, DMD, is a 1982 graduate of the University of South Carolina and attended dental school at the Medical University of South Carolina. He graduated in 1986 and recently completed his 31st year practicing dentistry.
When Dr. Lee met a fellow dentist on a dove shoot in September 2003, little did he know that his life was about to radically change. Danny Gardner, a dentist in Charleston and an avid supporter of foreign and domestic mission work, mentioned taking a trip to Venezuela in the spring, and the rest is history.
Dr. Lee contacted Dr. Bill Sasser of Charleston, a veteran servant with the Christian Medical and Dental Association, and away they went. For the past 12 years or so, Dr. Lee has been able to tap into Dr. Sasser’s trips abroad with the CMDA about two or three times a year, serving in Peru, Venezuela, Trinidad, Ecuador and his favorite, Honduras.
“I really think that God is leading me to do this a lot more often, and I am waiting to see how He would work that out,” Dr. Lee says. “I could never have even dreamed of the blessings He has showered on our family since we started serving the world’s poor so intentionally.”
He is in his 31st year of marriage to his sweet wife, Tilly. They have three sons, Hunter, Banks and Myles as well as a daughter-in-law, Anna, a grandson, Carson, and two future daughters-in-law, Molly and Bailey.
Hunter, an Air Force dentist, is stationed at Langley AFB. Banks is a junior dental student at MUSC and is also serving in the Air Force. Myles is a College of Charleston graduate and is the logistics and customer service director at Freeman Boatworks in Charleston.
“I can’t wait to see what God will do next … I’m really looking forward to continuing to serve Him the rest of my days on Earth,” says Dr. Lee.
