Cardinal Newman welcomes new principal, Kelly Burke, who boasts 34 years of experience in Catholic, public, and private school administration. She spent her early career in Georgia, where she saw great success in many roles including teacher, fine arts coordinator, development director, and principal at four distinguished schools, including a pre-eminent elementary school, a Catholic military high school, a school for at-risk students, and the Garrison School for the Arts. Ms. Burke holds a master’s degree in music and education, and is an accomplished violinist.
Most recently, Ms. Burke served as principal of Sacred Heart of Jesus School in the Hell’s Kitchen area of New York City, followed by serving as head of school at St. Stephen of Hungary School in the Upper East Side. With a strong emphasis on utilizing data to target instruction to students’ individual skill sets, Ms. Burke and her faculty members foster significant, verifiable academic growth across all student ability levels, consistently achieving among the highest Student Growth Indices across the 126 elementary schools of the Archdiocese of New York. “When students, parents, and teachers keep their focus on growth, achievement levels are bound to rise well beyond their expectations,” Ms. Burke explains. “All students deserve this opportunity.”
