Disney’s Beauty and the Beast Comes to Town Theatre
July 13 @ 3:00 pm - 5:30 pm
$15 – $25Step into a world of enchantment and timeless romance by experiencing the magic of Beauty and the Beast live on stage – a tale as old as time that will captivate your heart! Once upon a Town…there was an enchanted castle filled with dancing spoons, a talking teapot and a troubled Beast. Along came a beauty named Belle who desired more out of her provincial town than an ordinary existence. How Belle handles the advances of the pompous Gaston, learns to love the castle’s enchanted objects and, unbeknownst to her, works to tame the Beast, is wrapped in melodious tunes and unbelievable spectacle.
Town brings this “tale as old as time” back to its stage just before it is temporarily retired from licensing. Town Theatre was the first community theatre in South Carolina to produce the show in 2005 and will be among the last.
The role of Belle is shared by Tow newcomers Camryn Cothran and Scarlett Stone. Belle’s beauty (both in and out) catches the eye of the Beast, portrayed by Lee Saxton (Grease) and Wyatt Pittman, in his Town debut. Appearing as the arrogant Gaston are Ian Hazelrigg and Charlie Grant, newcomers to Town, with Tucker Privette (24 Hour Musical) and Shelby Sessler (Cinderella) as Gaston’s trusty side kick, Lefou. Richard Fisher (White Christmas) embodies Belle’s lovable father, Maurice.
In the Beast’s enchanted castle, audiences will meet Mrs. Potts, shared by Kayla Welch (Beautiful: The Carole King Musical) and Ashley Alvarado (Jekyll & Hyde). Her son, Chip, will be jointly portrayed by Gemma Burkett and Lacie Walko (both featured in The Sound of Music and The Wizard of Oz). James Gragg and Jack Child will step into the Town spotlight for the first time as Lumiere and create mayhem with Angela Adams (The Sound of Music) and Liam Milhouse (Something Rotten) in the role of Cogsworth, the tightly-wound, enchanted mantle clock.
The cast, just shy of 60 actors, is complete with high-kicking napkins, serenading spoons and even a cheese or two! So, “be our guest” as we bring the Beast back to Town! Don’t forget to purchase your enchanted rose so that you can be a part of the magic. Proceeds from rose sales benefit Camp Cole.
Disney’s Beauty and the Beast runs July 12-28 with 7:30 PM performances Thursdays/Fridays and 3:00 PM Saturday/Sunday matinees.
The show is directed by B. Scott Vaughan, with Jane Cato serving as music director and choreography provided by Katie Page. Jillian Bigony serves as costumer. Set design is by Bob Bramhall, light design by Jeremy Hansard, sound design by Clark Wilson and Amanda Wrona, props by David LaTorre and stage management from Ann Burns Bridwell.
