Win it 4 Kennedy

By Daphne Stubbolo

Lexington High School’s baseball team has worked hard this year, but the players’ minds haven’t been strictly on the diamond. Instead, they’ve been using their talents to bring awareness to a local student’s fight with cancer.

Kennedy Branham, a seventh grader at Lexington Middle School, is currently battling glioblastoma, a form of brain cancer, and the baseball team is showing its support. The Wildcats honored Kennedy by inviting her to throw out the first pitch at their first playoff game. To show their continued support, the team entered Evoshield’s Signature Squad contest on Facebook, which asked teams to submit videos portraying what they were doing to win a championship this season. The Wildcats submitted a video tracking their road to State, along with Kennedy’s battle with cancer, with the goal of bringing continued awareness to Kennedy’s fight.

The Wildcats’ video prevailed as the winner of the contest by more than 385 votes, and EvoShield has agreed to create custom wrist guards and t-shirts for the team and Kennedy. The shirts will feature the slogan “Win it 4 Kennedy.”

The young men of the Wildcats baseball team are an outstanding example of the Midlands finest.
