Science Cafe is the only place in South Carolina where, for the price of a cup of coffee, a quality craft beer or a smooth glass of wine, anyone can explore the latest trends in science and technology.
On the second Tuesday of each month, science enthusiasts are invited to meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Delaney’s SpeakEasy in 5 Points. Over the past four years, they’ve built a community of individuals dedicated to discussing those issues in an open forum with some of the world’s best experts. It’s free knowledge and inspiration from inspired thinkers and leaders.
The Science Café invites curious souls to engage their ideas and each other. It offers a forum for debating science issues where attendees dive deep into the research, the philosophies and ethics, and the applications of cutting-edge research. “This is not a windowshop for science. This is not an academic forum. These are not white papers or dry, academic panels. This is real discussion about real issues with real people,” say the Café organizers.
“We love having friends from the community join our Science Café family. So if you’ve never been before, here’s what you need to know before attending: Experts are here to talk with you. Feel free to interrupt and ask questions at any time — if you’re thinking it, someone else is to. So step up and ask it!”
Opinions and open discussion are encouraged. Think the speaker is creating a life-saving technology? Let them know. Think someone has a better theory? Challenge the speaker. The Science Cafe wants intellectual discussion that deepens understanding of the topic and the speaker’s work. There are no dumb questions and no judging, so ask away. They don’t bite.
Eat, drink and be merry while enjoying good times with good friends, great drinks and some deep discussion.
