Wedding Snapshots

By Muffie Vardell Wells

Married at the childhood home of the bride in Anderson, Caroline Roberts and Ray Castles’ outdoor wedding was a true neighborhood affair. With a reception that encompassed four adjoining backyards, meaningful details included bagpipes as a nod to the groom’s Scottish heritage, a wooden cross made by the groom’s brother and used at all family weddings, and an old Thunderbird getaway car, owned by Caroline’s grandparents. The bridal party of 27 enjoyed The Mighty Kicks music throughout the evening. Continuing a tradition started by Caroline’s parents, the newlyweds were sprinkled with birdseed as they departed for their honeymoon. Courtney Price Photography

With anticipated joy, wedding celebrations grew larger and honeymoon destinations more exotic for couples wed in 2022. With most travel restrictions finally lifted, our group of newlyweds were certainly smiling as they carried bulging suitcases and passports ready to be stamped! We invite you to enjoy these “Wedding Snapshots” shared from our seven featured newlywed couples.

After a ceremony at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, Graham Chapman and Jimmy Moore celebrated with a reception at Forest Lake Club. Graham treasures Cricket Newman Designs’ sheer tablecloth under the wedding cake with handsewn daisies honoring the favorite flower of Graham’s late mother, Lisa Chapman. Their first dance was to Van Morrison’s Brown Eyed Girl, a nod to Graham’s beautiful eyes. The couple now resides in Mt. Pleasant.

With both families present to celebrate the occasion, Hannah Haskell and Gantt Castles were engaged at the Castles’ family farm in Columbia. It was particularly special to be married June 11, the wedding anniversary of the bride’s parents, in Hannah’s hometown at Harborside East, Charleston. Hannah used lace from her mother’s wedding dress to wrap around her bouquet along with a handkerchief embroidered by her mother. The band, 17 SOUTH, played (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher for their first dance. Leslie Perkins Photography

Above: Robert Hallett popped the question to Lillian Tribble during a sunset cruise at Lake Murray. Following a wedding at First Presbyterian Church, the couple enjoyed celebrating with family and friends at Forest Lake Club. Lillian wore a family heirloom wedding gown and veil. The flowers were artfully arranged by Julianne Sojourner, and the couple’s first dance was to With This Ring by The Platters. The couple honeymooned at Cheeca Lodge and Spa in Florida.

After a five year “courtship,” Steely Masters and Joseph Walker tied the knot at First Presbyterian Church in Columbia. With an air of nostalgia, she carried a handkerchief at the ceremony previously carried by five generations of women on her mother’s side of the family. Steely’s heirloom engagement ring belonged to Joseph’s late grandmother, Helen Walker. The destination for their long-awaited honeymoon was Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort in St. Lucia.
