Wedding Album Memories

By Muffie Vardell Wells

Mary Adele Smith and Gavin Fawcett met through mutual friends in Atlanta in 2018 and were married on May 8 at Trinity Cathedral. They honeymooned in Sunny Isles, Florida, and will reside in Columbia.

What a joy to have wedding celebration memories. Our six wedding couples for this issue share their smiles and special celebration details — lifting the veil of COVID and singing praise.

Francie Wienges, bride of Lukas Daniel, carried her grandmother’s emerald and gold cross attached to her bouquet and wore her mother’s wedding comb in her hair. The memory table was filled with white flowers in mint julep cups as an ode to grandfather Othniel Wienges, who raced horses for a living.

Anne Elise Goudelock and Davis Riddle were married under the very oak tree at DeBordieu where they got engaged on Father’s Day weekend last year. Sarah Hance and William Short met their junior year at Clemson and have many memories of their families together at Clemson. After a long-distance relationship, they now reside in Virginia and claim that the saying is true — Virginia is for lovers!

Jen Semans and John Hines enjoyed a wedding at Hilton Head Island where Jen’s family has vacationed since she was a child. It was where they took their first vacation together and will continue to be where they make their memories. Maggie Carter and Paul Amick were married in the front yard of her parents’ beautiful Heathwood home by Paul’s best friend, Blake Holloman, now a youth pastor. As the clock struck midnight, guests sported colorful wigs and glasses and were showered with confetti.

Mary Adele Smith and Gavin Fawcett were married at Magnolia Way/Fawcett Farms, a spectacular Southern venue where they will make many memories going forward with the Fawcett family!

So much to celebrate!

Francie Wienges and Lukas Daniel tied the knot and celebrated on March 27 at Magnolia Way. Guests were greeted with Champagne, and The Root Doctors entertained through the night. Cheeseburger sliders and Baileys milkshake shooters were enjoyed for late night fare. The couple honeymooned in St. Lucia.

After being set up by Davis’ mom and a wonderful courtship, Anne Elise Goudelock and Davis Riddle were married March 13 at DeBordieu. Anne Elise’s dress was from Maddison Row South in Charleston, and she wore her mother’s veil. Friends and family enjoyed the band, Affirmative Groove, from Virginia.

Sarah Hance and William Short were married Feb. 6 at Lowndes Grove in Charleston. They enjoy cooking and entertaining, and William is a wine enthusiast — an added bonus. Their sassy corgi, Lyla, never misses a party.

Hilton Head Island was the destination for Jen Semans’ and John Hines’ April 24 wedding. The ceremony was at Providence Presbyterian Church with the reception following at the Shorehouse at the Omni Hilton Head Oceanfront Resort.

Dec. 31, 2020, was the special date Maggie Carter and Paul Amick wed at the home of her parents, Margaret and Jimmy Carter, in Columbia. The New Year’s ambiance was created by Cricket Newman Designs with a clear topped tent amid twinkling lights and lots of magnolia branches. Guests danced the night away to a nine-piece band, and a cranberry margarita called “The Gamecock” was served in honor of the bride and groom’s alma mater.
