The Mitchell House & Gardens

For more than 20 years, the Mitchell House and Gardens has been providing full-service, stress-free weddings and receptions. The perfect venue, this historic home and gardens offers three wedding sites: inside the stately Camellia Room, in the Gazebo on the South Lawn, or in the Grand Garden Pavilion, a semi-enclosed covered area which accommodates up to 300 guests. The house was renovated to accommodate wonderful party flow with large open rooms, easy access, porches, and french doors to a wrap-around patio. A room added to the back features a gorgeous mahogany bar purchased from a 200-year-old Charleston hotel. The description and atmosphere would be termed “Southern Elegance;” however, the facility lends itself to everything from the most elegant soiree to a casual khaki slacks/blue blazer/Beaufort Stew event.

The joy a bride experiences after the proposal can be quickly and completely replaced by the stunning realization that she has to plan a wedding and reception and find the perfect venue, the wedding dress, the minister or officiant, director, music, flowers, tables, chairs, linens, candelabras, photographer, caterer, cake, DJ or band, bar service, invitations and more. Phyllis James, Mitchell House owner, says it can be overwhelming. “Today’s brides and their mothers usually experience ‘time stress’ when they should be basking in blissful happiness. We offer every necessary service in our 28 packages.” The Mitchell House offers everything, from ordering the invitations to blowing the bubbles, plus everything in between. The staff consists of wedding planners, officiants, wedding directors and reception managers. Patsy Kiser, wedding planner and cake designer, goes over work sheets, set up layouts, menus and other details at regularly scheduled planning sessions. Kelly-Jean Whitting, floral designer with experience in event design and decor at the Kentucky Derby and other similar venues, transforms the house and garden into the bride’s dream design. Karen Petit, wedding director and reception manager, greets each wedding party as they arrive and leads them through a flawless wedding and reception. Gary Pozsik, officiant, offers a choice of vows and ceremonies and performs beautifully. DJ and professional bar service is also offered.
