How did your business begin?
It grew out of a passion for exceptional care and housing for seniors. The Crossings at Columbia is being developed by Smith Packett group and managed by Harmony Senior Services. These two groups are based in Virginia and are family owned and operated here in our region. To serve the residents of the greater Columbia/Midlands area, the location on Clemson Road was selected. Careful thought and consideration went into site location and services offered. We broke ground in January 2014 and are scheduled to open in early 2015.
What is the mission of your business?
We are an apartment-style assisted living community and we have a specialty care community for those with memory issues. Our mission is: “We put our passion for life to work, creating a thriving community for seniors to enjoy the comforts of home, the care of professionals and the energy of life.”
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
We have six main differences from other assisted living communities: spacious studio, one bedroom and two bedroom apartments; a “Farm to Table” dining program, where our menu includes fresh, locally grown produce, meats, jams and dairy; a chef overseeing our dining services; very spacious closets; licensed nurses on site around the clock; a simple month-to-month lease with no large buy-in fees.
How will the Columbia community benefit from your business?
We are offering a unique, state-of-the-art choice in assisted living and memory care. We partner with many local businesses in healthcare, education as well as religious, and community groups to provide on-going care for elders. We are gathering the best and most caring staff from the Columbia area, and we will provide more than 100 jobs by the time we are full.
What inspires you daily?
Our team is inspired by the seniors and the families that they serve. We are learning every day from the elders in our community. They have the life experience and wisdom that cuts through our busy lives and helps us prioritize our commitments to the people we love and serve. What we are doing here at The Crossings is fulfilling our passion and creating loving environments for people to work and live.
