Take Your Kids on an Edventure

By Lauren Brock

October in the Midlands is brimming with events and activities for both adults and children, and EdVenture Children’s Museum is adding to the excitement.

Through Oct. 6, the museum will feature Blooming Butterflies, a 2,500-square-foot exhibit filled with dozens of species of vegetation showcasing the lifespan of more than 20 species of butterflies native to the Southeast. The exhibit is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Perhaps a virtual hike through West Africa is more your speed. Travel from the coastal cities through the rainforests and out into the open-air family compound on the savanna in EdVenture’s traveling exhibit, From Here to Timbuktu, which is open through November. Other special events include Toddler Take Over on Oct. 1; Bank of America’s Museums on Us Weekend on Oct. 6 and 7; Family Night at EdVenture on Oct. 9; and Toddler Tuesdays at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays throughout the month.

Beakers and Broomsticks, EdVenture’s annual Halloween celebration celebrating creepy thrills and science skills, will be held on Oct. 27. And for the grown-ups, there’s UnCorked, an adults-only evening of discovering aromas and flavors found in wine. Beer, wine, food and a crafting station will be available at this benefit for EdVenture’s educational outreach programs, held Oct. 18 at 7 p.m.
