Sitting down with Bill Barrett, owner
How did your business begin?
Sometimes, you are in the right place at the right time. I was fortunate enough to visit a wood shop where a master craftsman was building doors. I could see how grueling the work was that hot afternoon, but equally obvious was the passion he showed in working with those doors. When he told me he was looking to train someone, I didn’t hesitate to volunteer. When my customers remark about the passion they see in me with the work we do, I know the timing was everything all those years ago.
What do you like best about your line of work?
We love working with our customers to create the entries of their dreams. The garage doors in the photo here are some of our favorites. Standing more than 11 feet tall, with Rocky Mountain exterior hardware and straps, they are just stunning.
How do you keep up with the latest advances in your field?
We continue to seek out innovative solutions for our customers by working closely with vendors who stay ahead of the curve on such options as sliding door systems, motorized retractable screen doors and products that enhance and extend the life of exterior entries against the harshest elements. We don’t just look forward; we pay homage to the amazing craftsmen of yesteryear as we build our doors because sometimes the old methods just cannot be improved upon.
What is your favorite pastime?
Harriett, my wife, and I love to build things together when we have time. Last year we built our dining table out of antique pine and genuine mahogany. Josh, our son, was deploying around Christmas so Harriett was adamant we were going to eat our Thanksgiving meal at that table! We worked after hours and every weekend to finish it and brought it home the day before Thanksgiving. We are fortunate to share a passion for creating beautiful entries … and sometimes tables.
