Agape Care South Carolina

Agape Care is the leading hospice and palliative care provider in South Carolina, serving all 46 counties across the state.
In early 2020, Agape Hospice and Hospice Care of South Carolina combined to form Agape Care to expand its patient services. The combined organization has 900 employees and cares for more than 1,500 patients. Though the company has a new name, they provide the same exceptional care families have relied upon for many years.
If your family is caring for someone affected by serious illness, Agape Care’s team of experienced professionals is here to help. The company offers an individualized care plan to ensure each patient and their family have the support they want and need during every stage of their journey. Care is provided wherever the patient calls home — whether that is in an assisted living facility, hospital, nursing home, or private residence.
Care programs offered include adult hospice care, adult palliative care, and pediatric palliative and concurrent care. Agape Care also has four hospice houses throughout the state, including one in Columbia on Stoneridge Drive.
Hospice services are available to patients who no longer benefit from, or choose to forgo, curative treatment. The typical hospice patient has a prognosis or life expectancy of six months or less, if the illness follows its expected course. Services are provided by a team of trained professionals who provide medical care and support services, not only to the patient but also to the patient’s family and caregivers as well.
Hospice is designed to manage pain and discomfort, provide for medical needs and equipment, offer spiritual assistance and guidance, facilitate communications, and support the patient and their family in understanding their options for care.
Patients who may benefit from hospice care are those in the final stages of chronic lung disease, congestive heart failure, AIDS, cancer, cardiovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s and dementia, and other life-limiting, terminal illnesses.
Palliative care focuses on providing patients with relief from the symptoms, pain, and stress of a serious illness — whatever the diagnosis. It also provides patients with much-needed education regarding advance care planning and their disease and its prognosis. The goal of palliative care is to improve quality of life for both the patient and the family.
Hands of Hope is the pediatric care program, which offers palliative and concurrent care for any child managing a life-limiting illness. Through a compassionate care model, Hands of Hope provides support for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of children and their families so they can focus on what matters most.
Inpatient hospice care at one of Agape Care’s four hospice houses gives your loved one access to medical and emotional support 24 hours a day, in addition to providing pain management and other palliative treatments. It can be challenging to care for an ailing loved one on your own. Thankfully, you don’t need to. Consultations about inpatient hospice care and virtual tours are available.
Why families choose Agape Care: available 24/7, experienced, collaborative care teams; superior clinical quality; and dedication to delivering a meaningful patient and family experience with every interaction. Agape Care’s mission is to serve with love, providing comfort and support through compassionate care and meaningful experiences.
Family Testimonial: “Agape Hospice came in and surrounded my dad, myself, and the rest of our family with all the love, care, patience, friendship, and support that I could have ever asked for or ever imagined.” – Kimberly, daughter

Unprecedented. How many times have we heard that word in 2020? “Unprecedented” times. This year has certainly been one for the books and not always in a good way. However, this year has also brought many unexpected joys in the midst of difficult days. One such joy has simply been to watch the Still Hopes staff and residents come together like never before. Our residents have stated time and time again how grateful they are to call Still Hopes home during this “unprecedented” time. The fact that residents and staff can physically see one another and metaphorically lean on each other right now is a major blessing. Along with our people, our physical spaces have largely contributed to the wellness of those who reside on our campus.
This past year we celebrated the grand opening of our new Greenway building. Greenway is home to our River Banks Assisted Living and our Jane Bruce Guignard Skilled Nursing neighborhoods. This state-of-the-art building was designed to embody the household model of care. We are the first Life Plan Community in the Southeast to utilize the household model of care for our residents, and the positive impact it has on our residents’ quality of life is evident.
In a few months we will celebrate the grand opening of our newest apartment building, the WellPointe Project. The WellPointe Project will provide another state-of-the-art space complete with beautiful apartment homes and ample amenities. Our new WellPointe Project residents will have access to Still Hopes’ array of dining and recreational options. We can’t wait to welcome these new residents home.
We would be grateful for the opportunity to show you our amazing community and show you the Still Hopes way of life. Please call us to arrange a convenient time for us to share our home with you.

In the spring of 2003, David Coker’s grandmother had a stroke. “My mother and her sister were constantly running back and forth to assist her with her needs, and they really needed a break,” he says. After doing a little research about Comfort Keepers and learning that the organization has 600-plus franchise offices nationwide, David eventually met with them in Ohio and decided to bring Comfort Keepers’ same services to South Carolina.
“It has been a great experience ever since, providing quality care for so many seniors and others throughout the Midlands and being one of the few business I know of where you are fortunate enough to get thank you cards from your clients,” David shares. Comfort Keepers has been able to provide services to thousands of clients in the Columbia area. Currently, in fact, Comfort Keepers now operates in the Florence and Sumter markets as well.
“We provide assistance with household tasks, such as light housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care tasks, such as bathing and grooming,” David explains.
In addition, Comfort Keepers offers clients a wide range of companionship services, including conversation, walks, errands (including transportation), as well as assistance with hobbies and other interests. “By providing the right mix of in-home senior care services, we are able to help your loved ones maintain independence while enhancing their quality of life,” says David.
