• Independent and Assisted Living
• Memory Support
• Short-term Rehabilitation**
• Skilled Nursing
• Outpatient Rehabilitation
Located at the end of Davega Drive in Lexington, the community boasts a beautiful, natural setting with walking paths and a boardwalk to the Saluda River. Residents enjoy conveniences of maintenance-free living while pursuing personal interests.
Part of Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina, an organization that has been serving seniors for more than 58 years, the Columbia Presbyterian Community has a wellness focus that supports people’s desire to stay fit and well.
At Columbia’s wellness center, personal training is offered in addition to exercises like Tai Chi to promote balance and strength. Life enrichment programs include book reviews, movies, trips, pet visits, cooking, bridge, bunko, musical events and more. The community has a full-time chaplain who provides spiritual guidance and leads devotions, Bible studies and vespers. Residents of all faiths are welcome.
*Formerly known as Continuing Care Retirement Communities, Life Plan communities offer peace of mind knowing a plan is in place should health care needs arise. LeadingAge, the national association of not-for-profit senior living organizations announced in November 2015 that CCRC terminology will transition to Life Plan Community.
**Open to non-residents.
Comfort Keepers
“In the spring of 2003, my grandmother had a stroke,” shares David Coker, owner of Comfort Keepers. “My mother and her sister were constantly running back and forth to assist her with her needs, and they really needed a break. After doing a little research about Comfort Keepers and meeting with them in Ohio, I came back to South Carolina ready to bring that same service. It has been a great experience ever since, providing quality care for so many seniors and others throughout the Midlands and being one of the few business I know of where you are fortunate enough to get thank you cards from your clients. Columbia has been great to us, and we have serviced thousands of clients in the area.”
Comfort Keepers now has 600+ franchise offices nationwide, and they handle the Columbia, Sumter and Florence markets. They provide assistance with household tasks, such as light housekeeping and meal preparation, and personal care tasks, such as bathing and grooming. Comfort Keepers offer their clients a wide range of companionship services, including conversation, walks, errands, (including transportation), as well as assistance with hobbies and other interests. By providing the right mix of in-home senior care services, they are able to help your loved ones maintain independence while enhancing their quality of life.
Daybreak Adult Care Services
For more than 15 years, Daybreak Adult Care Services has provided nonmedical services to seniors in their own homes. These clients’ needs can vary greatly. Some seniors might need someone to drive them to run errands, or someone to help them take care of a pet. Others might need around-the-clock assistance. Care is generally given in private residences, but some clients are in assisted living facilities and nursing homes.
“Daybreak is bigger than most local companies, so we have a lot more resources,” owner Coker Day states. If a regular caregiver isn’t at work one day, someone else will be there. “I guarantee you that we won’t miss a shift, because we have so many great caregivers.” On the other hand, Coker doesn’t want “a revolving door” of people coming in and out. “We do everything we can to make sure you don’t have too many caregivers and that you have consistent caregivers coming to your home. Our focus is to keep our clients happy and safe in their own environment.”
Daybreak Adult Care serves clients in Columbia, Lexington, Aiken and Hilton Head.
Laurel Crest Retirement Center
Life is about choices. What to wear, where to go, when to move … when people make the choice to live at Laurel Crest, they are choosing to control their lives.
