Savory Suggestions: Sweet Potato Casserole

Sponsored Content

By Heath Ax, executive chef, Ruth’s Chris Steak House

There’s nothing quite like a great steak. But when you’re looking forward to a delicious steak dinner, choosing the right sides can take your meal to the next level. Whether you’re cooking at home or enjoying a meal out, sweet potatoes are an often overlooked, yet prized complement to a well marbled steak. The sweet yet slightly earthy flavor profile provides the perfect counterbalance to a New York strip or ribeye. And with the crunchy pecan topping, the Ruth’s Chris sweet potato casserole hits all the right notes for this match made in heaven.

Sweet Potato Casserole

¾ cup sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon vanilla
2 cups mashed sweet potatoes
1 egg, well beaten
¼ cup butter

Crunchy Topping
¾ cup brown sugar
¼ cup flour
¾ cup chopped nuts (pecans preferred)
¼ cup melted butter

Combine topping ingredients in mixing bowl and put to the side. Combine casserole ingredients in a mixing bowl in the order listed and combine thoroughly. Pour sweet potato mixture into buttered baking dish and sprinkle topping evenly across the surface. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 F. Allow to set for at least 30 minutes before serving.
