How did your business begin?
Founded as Providence Hospitals in 1938 by the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, Providence’s two free standing full-service hospitals and numerous satellite practices maintain a true devotion to advanced clinical expertise and unmatched compassion. On Feb. 2, 2016, Providence became part of LifePoint Health, and shortly thereafter, changed its name to Providence Health to better represent the full complement of its services. Providence Health continues to be driven by quality, compassion and Christ. Providence treats the whole person — body, mind and spirit.
What is the mission of your business?
Our mission is Making Communities Healthier by Extending Christ’s Healing Ministry.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
The biggest differentiators of Providence Health are quality and compassion. The Society of Thoracic Surgeons has awarded its highest overall rating of three stars to Providence Health 19 times in a row. Compassionate care helped it achieve the No. 1 ranking for “patient experience” in Columbia. Compassion for co-workers helps it create and sustain a desirable work environment. Compassion for the community emanates through event participation and support for local business. Providence Health has a vision to create places where people choose to come for healthcare, physicians want to practice and employees want to work. Compassion and quality play a part in achieving this vision.
What inspires your business and staff on a daily basis?
The staff at Providence Health is inspired by the Lord’s healing work and the love and generosity of Christ. Each day starts with prayer heard over the loud speaker, and a Crucifix graces a wall in every room. When Providence opens a facility or practice, or brings a major piece of technology online, staff often offers a blessing for the new addition. Onsite meetings begin with prayer, and it is not uncommon for an employee to pause before a difficult task to ask for the Lord’s help.
