“While many orthopedists are generalists, each of our physicians practice in one of six orthopedic specialties – foot and ankle, total joint replacement, pediatric orthopedics, spine, sports medicine, or upper extremity.”
How did Moore Center for Orthopedics begin?
The practice was founded in 1928 by Dr. Austin T. Moore. A world-renowned pioneer in orthopedics, Dr. Moore performed the first recorded artificial hip replacement surgery, using a prosthesis he created. His later work revolutionized the treatment of fractured hips. His prosthesis is still used today around the world.
What differentiates Moore from other orthopedic practices?
While many orthopedists are generalists, each of our physicians practice in one of six orthopedic specialties – foot and ankle, total joint replacement, pediatric orthopedics, spine, sports medicine, or upper extremity. That dedicated expertise means they see many more incidents within their specialty than a typical generalist would, therefore gaining much greater knowledge and expertise.
Unlike any other practice in the area, Moore offers patients a full continuum of orthopedic care from diagnosis to treatment, including our own surgical and rehabilitation facilities. Our special rehabilitation centers for children are the only orthopedic ones in the area.
With a strong focus on patient experience, our unique dedicated care teams are designed to provide exemplary patient care where physicians and staff get to know patients on a personal basis.
Finally, as South Carolina’s leader in musculoskeletal research, our physicians incorporate the latest medical innovations and technology in daily patient care, having been the first to perform a number of new procedures in South Carolina.
What are your goals of 2015?
Our primary objective is to continually improve the delivery and quality of orthopedic care in our state. We have recently opened our new expanded pediatric orthopedics center – the only one of its kind in the area – as well as a new spine center. We have expanded patient care with walk-in orthopedic services through Moore Convenient Care at our Northeast Columbia office, as well as opening a new office in Irmo. We expect to add new specialists and expand the facilities and equipment in our new sports performance training center, PEAK Performance.
