Sitting down with Elliott Bridgers, owner and buyer

“Our clientele consists of all ages who are always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary at affordable prices.”

What differentiates Mainstream Boutique from other women’s clothing boutiques?

We are a multi-generational store. Our clientele consists of all ages who are always on the lookout for something out of the ordinary at affordable prices. We also carry a private line of clothing called “Mac and Me” that is exclusive to Mainstream Boutique. The “Mac and Me” spring pieces we are offering are so fresh and beautiful and will represent an even greater portion of our clothing this season.

Why did you decide to open a Mainstream Boutique?

I have always been interested in fashion, but never knew how to develop that passion into a career. Upon learning that a family friend opened a Mainstream Boutique in Florence, I was immediately intrigued. I researched the franchise and was extremely impressed with the company’s established business model. I thought they must be doing something right to have more than 50 thriving locations in 16 states. I especially loved that each boutique owner choses their own décor and inventory based on the local market.

What do you like best about your line of work?

Buying the clothing and accessories and helping customers put looks together. The accounting tasks are necessary evils.

What is something people would be surprised to learn about your business?

Columbia’s Mainstream Boutique is the third one in our state. In addition to Florence, there is also one in downtown Greenville.

How has your life experience aided you in opening a Mainstream Boutique?

Working in a corporate environment for 12 years helped to develop my business acumen and taught me how to effectively deal with people. A few years ago, I earned my MBA from USC’s Moore School of Business. That definitely helped to round out my business knowledge and increased my confidence in opening my own boutique.
