Let Them Eat Cake

Columbia grooms show their sweet side

By Muffie Vardell Wells

Ansley and Richard Seabrook

Ansley and Richard Seabrook were married on Jan. 13 at Trinity on the Hill United Methodist Church, with the reception following at Sacred Heart Cultural Center in Augusta, Georgia. Their wedding cake was a five-tiered almond pound cake adorned with beautiful florals. It sat on top of an antique linen overlay that is a family piece of the bride. Whenever it is used, each couple’s new wedding initials and wedding date are embroidered on the lace. The cake was made by Lila Green of Augusta. Amy Noon Free Photography

As a 2012 graduate of The Citadel, Adger wanted to shake things up and use his Citadel sword to cut their wedding cake. The cake was made by Kathy Allen Fine Cakes. Lauren Rosenau Photography

Beverly and William Bowers

Beverly and William Bowers were married on Aug. 11 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral in Columbia. The location was special for the couple because both the bride’s and the groom’s parents were married at Trinity Cathedral. They were given the sterling silver cake knife by Rod and Reba Hull, who had also given Beverly’s parents a cake knife for their wedding gift. Beverly and William cut the cake at Forest Lake Club in the same spot where her parents had cut their cake Sept.15, 1984. Liz Roberts Photography
