Columbia Metropolitan is once again excited to present Inspired Interiors, featuring eight designers who share stunning rooms created for their exceptional clients. Inspiration can come from location, response to specific client needs, as well as the challenge of a new build-out. Whatever the source, designers artistically weave architectural details with furnishings and accessories, color and style, showcasing each of their homes in a unique spotlight.
The serene beauty of the sea permeates Linda Burnside’s living room, where the rich shades of blue with organic touches echo complete elegance. Steven Ford’s total remodel around his client’s lakeside view is a stylish and functional open concept living plan where he incorporates “everything old is new again.”
Palmetto Tile’s Cathrine Reynolds shares a design for a primary bath that captures her client’s sophisticated edginess using traditional finishes — black accents provide the dimension and drama needed to make this room effortlessly chic. Erin Rasmussen with Design and Dwell styles an incredible kitchen in a new space with 22-foot ceilings, using a combination of stain and paint to create contrast and warmth.
A Lake Murray living room by Anna Ross Kinard with Ethan Allen is inspired by a tranquil setting with a curated palette of light greys, blues, and creams. Christy Davis preserved her client’s stunning view from the master bath by strategically placing a tub beneath a large picture window, allowing the sunlight to reflect detailed touches, including a custom shaped vanity backsplash.
Southern Custom Doors & Hardware creates a stunning and sleek kitchen design with custom designed pantry doors that complement the handles selected for the unique cabinetry. Meredith Hart with House of Birdie designs a living room that exudes fresh taste. Inspired by the energy of color balanced with a sense of neutrality, her use of textiles, wallpaper, rugs, art, accessories, and lighting is timeless.
We at CMM applaud these wonderful Columbia designers for sharing their talents. Savor this splendid collection of interiors — and be inspired!
Collaborative Design
By Cathrine Reynolds
Imitation has been said to be the highest form of flattery. If this is true, then working with an interior designer or builder on their personal home is the second highest form. It was an honor collaborating with Chandra Lewis, principal designer and owner of Bella’s Designs and Consulting, on the construction of her personal home.
We were able to capture her sophisticated edginess using traditional finishes in a modern 24-inch by 48-inch format. Pairing a timeless, neutral porcelain marble-look field tile with a bolder, more artistic marble accent gives depth and sophistication to the space. Bringing in accents of black with the shower floor, niches, and freestanding tub anchor the space while providing the dimension and drama needed to make this room effortlessly chic. This primary bath is the epitome of creating the perfect balance of style, sophistication, and timelessness.

Lakeside Tranquility
By Anna Ross Kinard
Designing this serene living space overlooking Lake Murray was a deeply personal endeavor blending lakeside tranquility with timeless elegance. Inspired by the lake’s natural beauty, I curated a palette of light greys, blues, and creams to harmonize with the surroundings. The traditional sofas in soft cream fabric were chosen for comfort and style, complemented by blue-grey accents for a cozy ambiance.
Careful selection of a classic area rug and strategic placement of glass, porcelain, and metal accents enhanced the room’s aesthetic. This also maximized natural light and showcased the lake view. The sleek glass coffee table served as both a functional centerpiece and a platform for elegant decor, reflecting the client’s personality and the room’s serene atmosphere. My goal was to create a sanctuary where my client could unwind and appreciate the beauty of Lake Murray from the comfort of their home.

Coastal Serenity: The Essence of Oceanic Elegance
By Linda Burnside
Drawing inspiration from the ocean was the inspiration for this living room, which reflects the tranquil hues and organic elements of coastal life. The rich shades of blue chosen for the palette echo the depth and movement of the sea, seamlessly integrated with the soft backdrop of Alabaster paint by Sherwin-Williams, my favorite light and airy shade. The mantel, crafted from white limestone, stands as a focal point, complemented by reeded bookcases that add texture and simplicity.
Natural light floods the space, enhanced by brass picture lights and a driftwood chandelier that create a warm ambiance. The furniture features raffia finishes and white driftwood accents, bringing an organic touch. Art pieces inspired by the graceful flow of fish and ocean currents adorn the walls, adding a layer of intrigue. This room, designed for entertaining and gathering, maintains an unobstructed view, celebrating the home’s coastal location.

A Contemporary and Polished Look
By Jenny Gillespie, River Johnson, and Bill Barrett
When our client approached us with the task of custom-designing doors for her residence and selecting hardware that matched her modern aesthetic, we eagerly embraced the opportunity to contribute to the project.
In considering a pantry door style that would harmonize with the kitchen design while making a statement on its own, we opted for a door that combined modern black elements with glass and metal details, creating a more spacious and open feel.
To complement the room’s aesthetic, we chose the Emtek Select Hammered Lever in Black with an Unlacquered Brass stem. These handles not only harmonized with the design but also added subtle embellishments to elevate the overall visual appeal.
Given the uniqueness and intrigue of the cabinetry, we aimed to select handles that enhanced rather than detracted from its allure. Thus, our choice fell on the Belwith Keeler Channel pull in Brushed Golden Brass. With their sleek design and gentle edges, these handles complemented the cabinetry without overshadowing its distinctive features.

Primary Bathroom: Timeless Beauty
By Christy Davis
My clients wanted to update their primary bathroom suite in their ranch style home. The challenge was to maximize storage, include ample vanity space for two, a large soaking tub, curbless entry shower, and two water closets with only being able to add a minimal amount of additional square footage to the space, around 4 extra feet in length. My clients love their view of the lake and gardens, so I made sure we preserved the view and allowed as much sunlight to come into the room by placing the tub under a large picture window and adding a transom window in their new shower.
I added detailed touches with the custom shaped vanity backsplash, under-cabinet lighting, heated floors, and beautiful mosaic tile in the shower. I wanted to create a space that was timeless and elegant, as well as soothing and inviting — a place where they could enjoy their start and end of the day.

Everything Old Is New Again
By Steven Ford
I was first contacted by my clients after they started a remodel in their recently purchased home on Forest Lake. They had completely demolished the interior of the 1975 ranch style home and reached out to me for professional guidance on creating a vision and putting the space back together. With missing walls and gutted 8-foot ceilings, I guided them on selecting tile, lighting, floor stains, countertops, paint colors, and fixtures with modern touches.
The layout was designed totally around the fabulous lake view. The home was styled with various shades of blue, cream, and light grey. Furniture selections were carefully chosen to be functional, stylish, and beautiful. The final result is a gorgeous home with vaulted ceilings and open concept living — light, bright, and fun for a growing, young family.

Dream Kitchen
By Erin Rasmussen
When my client came to me with the vision board for her dream kitchen, I knew that together with Eagle Wood Works and Congaree Construction Co., we could create something special for her family. Since this project was a new construction, I had a blank slate to work with for space and style. Working with 22-foot ceilings, I was able to incorporate an oversized hood, which is the focal point of the space.
The tall cabinet towers on either side of the hood help to anchor the hood in the space and add a little sparkle with the glass panel doors and brushed gold lighting over each tower. By using a combination of stain and paint for the cabinet finishes and two different marbles, I was able to create contrast and warmth in this incredible kitchen.

Sitting Pretty
By Meredith Paysinger
When I walked into my client’s home for the first time, I was greeted with warmth and happiness. A house always has its own personality, but it’s the warmth created by the people living there that truly resonates. Our focus was on the foyer and living room, which started as a blank slate. I was asked to incorporate a family heirloom desk, piano, and bar.
My goal was to create a comfortable and inviting space for the family to gather, an area that matched the personality and excitement that it was begging to have. We balanced a sense of neutrality with the energy of color, ensuring it would remain timeless for many years to come with our use of textiles, wallpaper, rugs, art, accessories, and lighting. Once we had everything picked out, my client commissioned artist Erin Donahue Tice for the large-scale painting above the couch. Erin worked with us to pull the colors all together beautifully! We enlisted many local and nonlocal artisans to create this space, and the happiness of this home continues to exude with the final product.
