How did your service begin?
In 1911, Melissa Rauch Lowman gave her 950+ acre farm and additional property to the Lutheran Church. Over the years with Lutheran Homes of SC, our ministry continually evolved to provide a full-service continuum of innovative residential and healthcare programs and meaningful work opportunities for multiple generations of families. The work we do is not easy, and it is our calling for compassionate service to people of all faiths and beliefs in our care. Our longevity and reputation for quality of care sets us apart.
What is the mission of your service?
Believing in the presence of God, the value of human life and the dignity of the individual, the mission of Lutheran Homes of South Carolina, Inc. as a ministry of the church, is to promote the well-being of older adults by providing residential, healthcare, and hospice services.
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you or your service?
Many people think that The Heritage at Lowman only offers “nursing care.” We are a Life Plan Community providing independent and assisted living, memory care, short-term rehab, and long-term nursing care. We recently opened the Courtyards at Lowman, a unique independent living rental program. The two “pocket neighborhoods,” each offer 10 adjoining one or two bedroom cottage-style homes surrounding courtyards with common spaces and amenities encouraging a shared resident experience.
What do you like best about your line of work?
I have always felt a calling for the healthcare industry, specifically caring for older adults with an emphasis on wellness-focused aging. I found my dream job nearly 17 years ago at Lowman. I enjoy inspiring our TeamMates to be shining lights to make a difference to ensure our residents enjoy an active lifestyle and receive quality care.
