How did your business begin and what is its mission?
In 2014 after working as a financial advisor for many years, I decided to start my own financial planning and investment management practice focused on assisting individuals/families in a life transition such as loss of a loved one, divorce, career change, retirement, etc. This eventually led to the creation of The Financial Knot which is dedicated to empowering families in divorce. It is not the role of a client’s attorney or CPA in divorce to give advice on a client’s financial future. We provide our clients a proven process to navigate divorce and clarity on their future.
How has your life experience made you successful in your field today?
After going through my own divorce in 2004, I realized how unique the financial side of divorce can be. It doesn’t feel fair to be required to make life-altering decisions during this emotional period. I know what it’s like! We are here to foster new beginnings. The Financial Knot is a rescue for those seeking asylum from the confusion by offering advice on your divorce settlement agreement, assistance with your SC Financial Declaration, and much more. After divorce, our services include implementing the marital settlement agreement, opening new accounts, and establishing credit, estate plans, bill payment systems, and more. Complex financials need professional advice!
How has the Columbia community benefited from your business?
Aside from the obvious services we provide, we also provide some pro bono work for families who otherwise may not afford our services by offering free, educational webinars through Vesta Divorce. Studies show families are stronger post divorce when they engage professional providers. In addition, we are involved with Lighthouse for Life, Women in Philanthropy, United Way of the Midlands, and Central Carolina Community Foundation.
