Stan O'Brien
How did your business begin?
From a young age, building homes was always my dream. My logo is a representation of a drawing I did in elementary school. Those dreams took me to Clemson where I earned two four-year degrees in architecture and construction science. I am the only builder in the Columbia area with that level of education. After working for a large home builder in North Carolina, I wanted to come back to my home state and start my own home building company.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
I bring personal attention to an industry that is plagued with bad home building stories. I am the point of contact and communication for any errors or issues that come up, thus, I am able to solve them, and my clients have a wonderful building experience. Having education and experience in both design and construction allows me to build better homes that perform well and allows my clients to enjoy living in these homes. I am only as good as my subcontractors, and the majority have been with me for most of my 20 years in business. They are my partners, and we all work hard to make our clients happy long after construction is complete.
What is the latest trend in your business?
High performing homes will be a continual improving trend as time moves forward. With code changes and new products coming to this industry, homes that perform well will always be wanted. Universal design is the new trend that is hitting the industry. Our local Building Industry Association has developed a new certification that highlights homes that are built to meet this new standard, allowing the aging population to stay in their homes longer.
