How did your business begin?
Lutheran Homes of South Carolina realized that our ministry was missing an important piece — non-medical, in-home care. In 2007, BeWell Home Services (BWHS) was created to support families on our campuses, and in the wider community, who need help with daily living and one-on-one attention.
What is the mission of your business?
Our mission is simple, “to promote the well-being of older adults.” Key to our mission is the dignity of the individual. We strive to treat our clients, caregivers, and families with the dignity and respect they deserve.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
We pride ourselves to make life sustaining client-caregiver matches. We keep our care teams as small as possible to make sure that every BWHS caregiver is the best fit. When a match is a success we can be supportive to the family as well as the care recipient. In urgent situations, we’ve provided caregiver help in under three hours. We also offer families priority access to our senior communities and Lutheran Hospice if the need arises.
What do you like best about your line of work?
I love helping clients and families make important care decisions. When families realize that they can’t care alone and ask for help, I become a trusted resource at what is a very sensitive and vulnerable time. I take pride in developing lasting relationships with the families we serve. Together we help improve the entire family’s quality of life and care. This is more than a job, it’s my mission!
What is something people would be surprised to learn about you or your business?
BWHS provides care wherever a client may be — at home; in a retirement, assisted living, or nursing center; and even the hospital.
