How did your business begin?
I worked with State Farm in many positions, beginning in 1992 as Claim Representative, several regional positions, and finally becoming appointed as an agent in Columbia in 2000.
What is the mission of your business?
Helping our customers manage everyday risk, recover from the unexpected, and prepare for the future.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
State Farm is the number one insurer in the country, providing insurance and financial services. My agency provides auto, home, life, health, business insurance, State Farm Bank products (including mortgages), and retirement planning.
How do you keep up with the latest advances in your field?
Obtaining designations like the Chartered Advisor for Senior Living and the Chartered Financial Consultant designations from The American College of Financial Services keeps us up to date and prepared to assist customers in all phases of life.
What is your favorite pastime?
I really enjoy spending time with my family, and if I’m on a sailboat, life is good. But any activity on or near the water really makes life enjoyable.
How has your life experience made you successful in your field today?
My high school and college experiences were all in the hospitality industry. Serving the public has always been a passion of mine. Being able to protect families from the unexpected is really special.
How does your company give back to the Columbia community?
We’ve supported our community events and festivals. I am on several boards, including the Southeastern Chapter of the National Safety Council (president), Brain Injury Association of S.C. (Exec. Committee), S.C. Liquid Petroleum Gas Board, and recently helped the S.C. Department of Education revise standards for the insurance curriculum for insurance classes in South Carolina.
