How did your business begin?

Harmony Senior Services was founded on the belief that people deserve higher quality senior living options. When Harmony’s founder, Jim Smith, began his senior living journey in 1982, there weren’t many senior living communities like Harmony. Jim states, “Whenever I saw a best-in-class community doing something right, I modeled Harmony on their example.”

By identifying the needs of the senior living industry, speaking with residents and family members currently living in senior care homes, and creating a community model suited for his own aging parents, Harmony has become a best-of-the-best-in-class company.

What is the mission of your business?

Our Harmony mission is Family Serving Families. Harmony is truly a family business inside and out. In fact, four of our founder’s own family members have been Harmony residents, including both of his parents. Harmony understands the responsibility that comes with being the person entrusted with the care decisions for a family member. It is an honor for our family to provide each resident, family member, and associate with the same care, compassion, and respect we would our own family.

What inspires you daily?

Our residents and associates! Our inspiration and success are directly tied to the amazing residents that call Harmony “home” and our dedicated team of caregivers that provide the comforts of home in our community every single day.

How has the Columbia community benefited from your business?

Harmony provides something special for the aging adults in Columbia in that our community allows residents to comfortably age in place without the steep buy-in fees and long-term contracts required by some of our competitors. We offer independent, assisted living, and memory care all within one community so our residents can receive the right level of care as their needs and lifestyles change.
