Kenny Wardlaw, Teresa Wardlaw
How has your life experience made you successful in your field today?
In 2002, I was diagnosed with Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. As a result of my treatment, I developed respiratory issues. I began to study the effects of indoor air quality and how it impacts our health. This life experience taught me how to improve the quality of indoor air for our customers suffering with allergies, asthma, and other respiratory diseases/problems. Today we are certified indoor air quality experts. Cool Care Heating & Air is committed to making your home and/or office a healthier environment that your family and employees can thrive in with less sickness and peace of mind.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
Fifteen years ago, we installed a high efficiency air filter for a customer with a severe dust problem. After installing it, Kenny noticed that it did not help her dust problem, and he did not know why. He told me how bad he felt about not being able to help her, and I found a heating and air convention in St. Louis, Missouri, and signed us up. At the convention, our eyes were opened to a whole world of building science that was available for our industry. The government has spent billions of dollars researching everything about home health, safety, comfort, and efficiency; there is no longer a need to guess about problems. We invested in the diagnostic tools and training to help us repair any problem. As a result of this, we were able to solve our customer’s dust problem along with countless others. There is no problem related to heating and air-conditioning that we cannot fix. We are the only Building Performance Institute Goldstar contractor in South Carolina and were the first company to win the Department of Energy Century Award for being a top 100 company in energy savings work. Utilities have used our company for their training videos because we implement industry best practices on our jobs.
How do you keep up with the latest advances in your field?
Our technicians are North American Technician Excellence certified, and we continue to stay ahead of the curve of industry changes and advancements by training and development of our team.
How does your company give back to the Columbia community?
Cool Care Heating & Air gives back to our community through monetary donations, sponsorships, and participating in charitable events. We have sponsored a canned food drive every year to donate to Harvest Hope Food Bank. Our goal each year is to be better than we were the year before. In 2015, we donated six complete HVAC systems to South Carolinians devastated by the 100-year flood.
