Dr. Jonathan Suber
What differentiates your practice from other specialists in the field?
Our hospital differs from some of the other specialty businesses in that we only do veterinary orthopedic surgery. We have one focus. That focus allows me to put all of my years of research and experience in the field of veterinary orthopedic surgery to practice without the distraction of many different types of surgeries. My staff also has the benefit of this centralized focus. We are able to create the best possible environment for your pet’s success during surgery and recovery. We have two state-of-the-art operating suites that we are able to break down daily and clean, following a rigorous protocol.
What is the mission of your practice?
The mission of Capital Animal Hospital is simple. My main goal is to provide the latest surgery advances to the best of my ability along with making myself accessible to each patient and owner during the pet’s recovery. Every client goes home from surgery with my cell phone number, and I want them to feel that I am personally available if they have any questions or concerns after surgery. This was one of the main reasons I decided to open Capital Animal Hospital and keep it small enough to successfully retain doctor-client communications.
How do you keep up with the latest advancements in your field?
This is an important question, and I think it goes back to having the focus only on orthopedic surgery at Capital Animal Hospital. I have served on the board of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society. I also consult and instruct for an implant company. Here, I instruct other doctors on surgical techniques and procedures, as well as help in the development of new products for this company.
How did you get involved with this practice?
My grandfather, Dr. Pat Suber, opened Capital Animal Hospital in Columbia in 1953 as a general veterinary practice. My father, Dr. Andy Suber, took over in 1973 until he retired in 2017. I started working there when I was 14 years old, helping keep kennels clean and washing dogs. Even though I decided to specialize in orthopedic surgery, I decided to open Capital Animal Hospital Veterinary Surgical Center in honor of my family.
