What is something people would be surprised to learn about your business?
Brabham Fence expanded to the Charleston market in March of 2021 with the opening of a new office.
What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?
We have always specialized in fences, but in the past few years, we have made a big push into the rail and deck markets. Brabham Fence Company has the ability to handle any size and type of rail job. Anything from residential front steps to commercial railing in stadiums or auditoriums.
What do you like best about your line of work?
What I enjoy most about this business is all the different people whom I have the opportunity to meet and know. I have developed many friendships with customers, suppliers, and employees for whom I’m very grateful. Carole, my wife, and I are still great friends with a couple who were Brabham Fence’s very first customer.
How has the Columbia community benefited
from your business?
Giving back to the community has always been something that we feel strongly about. Since we began in 2005, we have always made a point to give to various charitable organizations through sponsorships and donations.
What is your biggest challenge?
The biggest challenge that we face currently is the labor force. Installing fences is a very physical job, but it is also a trade that takes time to learn. It’s hard to find people these days who want to perform this type of work. We’re continually looking for qualified people to fill roles in our company.
How did your business begin?
I started Brabham Fence Company in 2005 after being employed by another local fence company. From an early age, it had always been my desire to be my own boss. My first office was in the corner of my 1-year-old daughter’s playroom … with me as the only employee. We now employ more than 30 to 35 people, depending on the time of year and workload.
