Erskine Theological Seminary is on a mission – a mission to equip men and women for service in the Christian church. Now celebrating its 175th year, Erskine began as a small denominational seminary in Due West, S.C. Today, it serves students of many denominations at two degree-granting campuses (Columbia and Due West). Additional courses are offered in four extension centers (Florence, Charleston, Augusta and Greenville), where students can take up to half of the classes in their degree programs. The Columbia campus began in 2004 in partnership with First Presbyterian Church of Columbia. This urban campus is located in the center of the region Erskine serves and is easily accessible to students from across South Carolina and beyond.
Many of those responding to God’s call to ministry today are not fresh out of college, able to take up residence programs in new locations. Often, they are working adults, raising families and settled in churches and communities. They may be looking to study part-time while maintaining their other professions. Some are already serving churches and looking to be better equipped for their ministries. To meet the needs of this diverse student population, Erskine has developed multiple ways of making education convenient. In addition to a traditional daytime schedule, classes are offered evenings and on Saturdays, and many courses are also available online through the Erskine Virtual Campus.
With courses in Bible, church history, theology and practical ministry skills, Erskine offers post-baccalaureate education leading to masters’ degrees and an advanced program leading to the Doctor of Ministry degree. Certificate and diploma programs are available for those who have not yet completed baccalaureate degrees. Erskine Theological Seminary is accredited by The Association of Theological Schools (ATS) in the United States and Canada, as well as by The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).
