Children ages 5 to 9 discover the nature around them through hands-on activities. Kids will learn about different herbs and make their own Hooray for Herbs culinary herb mix to take home.
SAFARI SATURDAY
Dec. 15
Get ready to discover exciting things about nature! At Safari Sundays, children ages 2 to 5 play games, sing songs, do hands-on activities and have story time.
HOLIDAY WREATHS
Dec. 1
Learn how to make a naturally beautiful wreath for your home this holiday season using materials such as seed pods, fresh greens and natural accents. Class time is 10:30 to 11a.m.
WINTER ZOO CAMP
Dec. 20 & 21
Children ages 5 to 10 are invited to share in camp storytelling, crafts, games, zoo walks, animal encounters and behind-the-scenes tours. Camp is from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is $75 for Zoo members and $100 for general public.
GIRL SCOUT GIFT-A-PALOO-ZOO AND HOLLY JOLLY NIGHT HIKE
Dec. 1 & 2
The Girls’ Night Out Girl Scout Gift-A-Paloo-ZOO and Holly Jolly Night Hike is a fun-filled evening of crafts, animal encounters and activities that will earn credits towards your badge requirements and journeys. Lighted by almost one million twinkling lights, the event is from 5:30 to 9 p.m. $20 per scout and $10 per adult.
YEAR-ROUND PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has year-round programs for you and your family to enjoy. Unlimited rides and attractions wristbands are available for those who want full access to all six interactive activities. The cost for a wristband is $20 per person (plus general admission).
BEHIND THE SCENES ADVENTURE TOURS
Every Saturday
Children and adults can take behind the scenes tours and see the animals in a whole different light every Saturday. Many different adventure tours are available.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AT RIVERBANKS
Toddler Tales
You and your preschooler can enjoy stories, songs and adventures for 20 minutes every Thursday. Classes are held in the outdoor Congo Classroom across
from Gorilla Base Camp. Free with a Zoo membership or paid general admission.
Homeschool Mondays
Homeschooled children between the ages of 5 and 13, along with an adult, can come to Riverbanks every other Monday for a 45 minute program. Programs run from September through May. Class times are 9:30 a.m. for 5 to 7 year olds, 10:45 a.m. for 8 to 10 year olds and noon for 11 to 13 year olds.
OVERNIGHTS AND NIGHT HOWLS
Throughout the Year
Riverbanks Zoo has interactive nighttime programs that include live animal encounters, behind the scenes tours and a hike. If you spend the night, breakfast, a morning program and admission to the Zoo are included. Nighttime adventures are year-round and can take place any day of the week. Groups of 15 are required for Night Howls and 25 for overnights.
