When I was in the first grade, my introductory class with Junior Achievement studied the difference between needs and wants. Needs, we were taught, are things like food and shelter; wants constitute such pleasures as a puppy or a new bike. What we did not discuss is where needs and wants intersect, as in the most delicious fine dining experience, or in having a fabulous home that is functional, comfortable, and beautiful. The need for shelter can thus turn into a dream home.
It is with great excitement and anticipation that we at CMM present the 2021 Dream Home. This stunning 5,000 square foot mansion built by Mungo Portfolio Homes in its upscale Ascot Estates neighborhood certainly fits every possible need and surpasses any want imaginable. Contributing to the magnificence of the home, seven of Columbia’s finest interior designers have added their unique touch to 14 rooms, using the latest trends with creative and fascinating flair to make the interior an inspiration for all the dreams you may have for your own home.
On my first tour as we prepared for the photography, which you will see on page 66, I was struck by the continuity weaving through each room. While each designer has their own particular style, the trends for 2021 and a classical elegance shine through each one.
Touring this beautiful home can help inspire the execution of your own home design dreams and answer questions you might be pondering — are you more modern or classic in your decor taste? How might you refresh your screened in porch? What should you consider in pulling together a mother-in-law suite? Perhaps you dream about expansive his-and-her walk-in closets or a fireplace in your master bedroom. The Dream Home incorporates all of these wish-list items, including laundry rooms on both floors, full of ideas for a remake! Life is all about dreaming, and touring this home provides the inspiration for you to put your personal dreams into action.
