Design Trends as seen in High Point

By Christy Davis

Twice a year, High Point, N.C. comes to life with one of the largest home furnishing shows — High Point Market. Designers see the top furniture companies showcase their new products and design trends. There is nothing better than attending what the interior design industry likes to call ”Fashion Week” for the home furnishings world. Here are some of the top trends and significant pieces from this Fall Market that reflects South Carolina design.

The Gilded Stag Shaftesbury Cart

The Gilded Stag is based out of Arkansas and creates a show-stopping bar cart. The Chinoiserie design with a modern twist combines the popularity of that style with the also fashionable furniture piece. The Shaftesbury Cart is a modern approach to the timeless Chinoiserie design — shown in bold yellow lacquered finish and fretwork details on the frieze with bamboo legs that really make a statement! This bar cart is also available in other finishes. www.thegildedstag.com

Emerson et Cie Sophisticate II Chair

The Sophisticate II Chair is a stunner! The chair has a classic gray fabric on the seat and back cushion and Kilgore brindle hair on hide on the back with nail head trim, details that will make anyone fall in love with it. The frame is made of oak with a nickel-plated brass detail and melds Modern design with Campaign design elements.

Louise Gaskell Etta Chandelier

Talented designer Louise Gaskill creates gorgeous one-of-a-kind lighting. The Etta Chandelier is a unique, eye-grabbing piece that technically can be reproduced, but the stunning Mid-Century Murano turquoise glass is an antique and will not be seen on another Etta chandelier. But do not fret. Louise can still create this light fixture with other antique Murano glass. www.louisegaskill.com

The Natural Light Ponte Tranquility Lamp

The Ponte Tranquility Lamp by The Natural Light also demonstrates the trend of a classical design updated with a modern twist. It is shown in two different shades, a white and a turquoise. By changing the shade from white to turquoise, the classic lamp base appears modern and contemporary with the bolder color shade. www.thenaturallight.com

Modern History Milan Commode

Modern History is known for using inspiration from timeless, classic designs and giving them an updated fresh look. The Milan Commode has a painted finish with beautiful striping detail. The lines are crisp and the finish is clean, guaranteeing that this piece will work in any space! www.modernhistoryhome.com

Bernhardt Auberge Canopy Bed

The stunning Auberge Canopy Bed, by Bernhardt, is a gorgeous four poster upholstered headboard and footboard with nail head details, available with or without the iron canopy. The bed frame is clean-lined with a “white-wash/gray finish” and has a modern sensibility about it, but with the canopy added, there is a beautiful marrying of modern and traditional design — the epitome of modern romance. www.bernhardt.com

Vanguard Michael Weiss Collection, Graham End Table

Modern and classic, Michael Weiss, once again, proves his savvy style! His burl wood and stainless base with a glass top end table is part of his newest collection with Vanguard Furniture. www.vanguardfurniture.com

Noir Cactus Lamp

The Cactus Lamb by Noir is the definition of industrial chic. The vertical lines are reminiscent of the shape of a cactus but most notable is its ability to look like a sculpture. www.noir.com
