How did your business begin?

I started DayBreak late in 2001 after I had been laid off from a job selling Nursing Home software. A visible need for home based senior services was emerging, and I wanted to fill that need.

What is the mission of your business?

Our goal is to help our clients remain at their desired level of independence for as long as possible.

What differentiates your business from other specialists in the field?

We are not a franchise; all of our policies are homegrown to fit our customer base here in the Midlands. We are constantly looking for ways to enhance our clients’ experience with DayBreak.

What inspires you daily?

I am blessed to be able to get up every day and do a job I love while helping people accomplish their goal of aging in place.

What is your favorite pastime?

Offshore fishing and spending time with my family are my only pastimes. I try to go fishing at least once a week in the spring.

What are the latest developments/innovations in your field?

Technology is playing a larger role in homecare today. We are the local distributors of the GrandCare system — an appliance that can be placed in a loved ones’ home and used for monitoring and measuring their success completing activities of daily living.

How has the Columbia community benefitted from your business?

For the past four years we have funded the Charity Begins at Home Campaign.  This was a contest where people could go to our website and vote for their favorite charity, and the winner each month received a contribution. Through this campaign we will have contributed more than $30,000 to local charities. Our Daybreak family of caregivers plans to always offer their time, talents and financial resources to our well deserving communities.
