Columbia Makes Amazon’s List of Most Well-Read Cities

By Zoë Burge

Attention bibliophiles of Columbia: formal recognition has been awarded by none other than the book masters themselves. Amazon.com recently announced its fourth annual “Most Well-Read Cities in America” list, and Columbia proudly resides in the top 10. According to Amazon.com, the list is determined by compiling all book, magazine and newspaper sales from April 2014 through April 2015. The data was collected on a per capita basis in cities with more than 100,000 residents and includes sales in both print and Kindle format. Columbia is not a stranger to the list, as it’s joined other literature-loving cities in the lineup for two years running. “Our annual Most Well-Read Cities list shows that reading continues to be a passion for people from coast to coast,” says Sara Nelson, editorial director of print and Kindle books at Amazon.com. Read on, Columbia, in the spirit of keeping that passion alive.
