Carolina Retina Center was founded in 1992 by Jeffrey G. Gross, MD and has been providing excellent and compassionate care to patients throughout central South Carolina for more than 20 years. It’s no surprise, then, that Dr. Gross was voted a Best Doctor eight times. With the addition of Barron C. Fishburne, MD and Michael A. Magee, MD the practice has expanded to three board certified vitreoretinal specialists and four offices including Northeast Columbia, Sumter, Irmo and Hartsville.
Carolina Retina Center provides comprehensive evaluations of the retina and vitreous and then develops a specific treatment plan to obtain the most successful visual outcomes. Most procedures, such as laser for retinal tears, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions as well as the latest intraocular anti-VEGF injections for macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and retinal vascular diseases, are performed in our offices. Carolina Retina Center specializes in sutureless small gauge vitrectomy techniques for more advanced diseases requiring outpatient surgery such as retinal detachment, macular hole, macular pucker and vitreous hemorrhage. Patients enjoy shorter healing times, quicker visual recovery and higher visual outcomes.
Carolina Retina Center is dedicated to continued clinical research activities for diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular occlusions and macular degeneration patients. Individuals with these diseases are afforded the latest interventions to treat blinding diseases. Each doctor at Carolina Retina Center has served as a principle investigator on one or more major clinical trials. They have co-authored and presented results of this research at major national specialty meetings.
The staff and physicians of Carolina Retina Center are committed to providing outstanding service to patients, their families and referring doctors. Telephone calls are answered promptly and in person. Questions regarding treatment and prescription refills usually receive responses the same day. All offices are easily accessible with ample parking and comforting surroundings and equally equipped with the advanced diagnostic instruments required to provide superior care locally to all patients. Carolina Retina Center is focused on sight!
